Hey all, I'm sure this has been talked to death, but I couldn't find the search option and I've had a couple wobbly pops, so I figured I would just make my post. (Plus possibly win the pedals in the process)

I'm looking to buy myself a Strat. (not Squire) I can't afford to purchase a new US strat, so I have started to look at other options. I'm thinking around $500ish cdn. I thought about ebay but I'm scared of that option because no two guitars play the same, and I can't play them before I buy them.

That plus my price range basically leaves me with the choice of local new and used MIM and MIJ. When I went to the guitar store to check out what they had, there were a number made in Korea too. What? I never knew that you could get Korean made Fender guitars also. That messed with my whole structure. I always figured that (as a general rule) the quality structure from best to worst was US, MIJ, MIM with a few exceptions in different years. Does anybody have an opinion of where MIK fits in? It has the Fender name on it, so I'm sure it's decent. But I'm wondering if it would be better to look harder for a MIM or MIJ and pass the MIK by.

Once I figure this mess out, it will be finding a colour I like. Those old 50's are what I want most. Ah well, I'll find my perfect guitar yet. In the mean time, thank you in advance for any advice you guys and gals give me.

Steve

I don't know much for the MIK strats but I have a MIM strat and I like it a lot.The store where I bought mine had a couple of MIM strats and tele's and I played a couple of each.I don't know why but the one I bought was like night and day to the others, you know? One strat had a lousy neck and a terrible acoustic sound. The one I bought could've been a US strat compared to the others.I never plug them in right away-pick one that you like acoustically, you can always change p/u's.I'm planning on changing out my p/u's for a set of mid 80's EMG's I got from another axe years ago.The MIM p/u's are O.K. at best (IMO).Bottom line you gotta try different ones and there's no reason why you can't get a good strat for the money you have to spend.Good luck-I hope this helps.

I bought my HW1 Strat from Sam Ash for $599.99 (less 20% with a coupon!).

If you can save a bit longer, I would seriously consider the HW1. I liked it a lot more than the MIM or the MIA Standards. But the MIM Strats are will treat you well; they aren't bad by any means.

I'll definately check the HW1 out. It's just that what *I* think we can afford and what the *WIFE* thinks we can afford are two different things. I don't see $600 being a problem. If I was to pay the $1,400 sticker on the Fender I'm drooling over at the music store though, I'd get lynched!
