American HSS comes with the Diamondback.

I've been reading a lot of good things about the Dimarzio 36th Anniversary DP223.

In the 90's I used Fender Strats outfitted with a JBjr. In the 00's I was a Gibson Les Paul enthusiast.

Now we're starting the next decade, I'm 41 years old and it's time for a return to Fender. I just bought an American HSS.

I want the Les Paul tone with the Strat feel.

Is the switchout to the Dimarzio DP223 a good idea?

Good choice!! The HSS formatted Stratocaster is the guitarist's best friend!
It is an extremely versatile guitar!
I play in a copy band and it is indespensible! I can go from Hendrix to Zeppelin all in the flick of a switch!
However....as much as I LOVE Fender HSS formatted Strats....I HATE Fender's humbuckers!! The Atomic...the Diamondback.....CRAP (IMHO).
I replaced ALL the humbuckers in my HSS Strats.... and the stock ones......make lovely refrigerator magnets!!
As far as the DiMarzio 36th Anniv. P.A.F. goes.........I own several of them...and LOVE them!!!
I have them in several of my guitars. It's NOT a high out pickup... BUT...it's got a nice vintage growl to it!
The guitar pictured here (2002 Am. Dlx. Fat Strat) formerly had a DiMarzio Super Distortion. It got to be too much...so in went the 36th Anniv.
I decided to get a little funky and get the one with the 'aged' chrome cover.
Looks and sounds amazing!!
IMHO....I'd say......DO IT!!!

Thank you so very much for you reply. I've put in the order for the pickup.

I'm not looking for high output...I'm looking for tone (Kind of a cross between Angus Young and Johnny Ramone).

Thanks again!

later...Cliffy
