Hey so I got a Squier strat for crimbo! :D It's really cool but I'm having trouble with the whammy bar! (sorry for slight beginner question! :P) K so when I wind it in nothing happens? If I wind it in really tight obviously nothing happens, but then when i leave it kind of loose nothing happens either? :( I really want to get using it so help would be much appreciated! Also I've seen loads of similar questions regarding new guitars and whammys?

In order to use the whammy bar you need to check if your bridge has been setup for floating (floating bridge/floating tremolo its called)

See the picture (top half) it should look like this side on if its floating with about an 1/8" gap. Some music stores spring or block the bridge so its flat against the body (as seen in the bottom half of the picture) this is unsuitable for tremolo/whammy use.

You can set it up floating by either reading the setup instructions that came with your guitar or ones found on this website for the Fender Stratocasters.
Alternatively you can take to a guitar/instrument store and get it setup properly there.
For beginners its some what of a novelty unless you have a song that has tremolo use in it.
So don't think you absolutely have to have it setup if its not. Many people never get around to setting theirs floating.
