my mim 60th anniv strat-the volume control is only effective from 10 to 7.no output from 7 to zero.this condition makes it hard to roll off some guitar volume down to between 7 and 3 or 4.settings-10 equals max output. settings 9 thru 7 equals slightly lower output.7 and to zero equals no output.is this condition normal? how is this vol pot supposed to function ? thanks for the help !

Welcome.

No, it is not normal as the pot is supposed to function from '0' to '10' getting incrementally louder as you dial up the higher numbers (and vice-versa). Usually, your problem stems from any one of the following (in no particular order): A ground came loose from the pot, it is really dirty inside of the pot, you have an inappropriate treble retention circuit across the pot, the pot itself is of an inappropriate value or the pot is outright blown.

You're welcome.

I can assure you, my description of the pot's function will be no different than Fender's.

Based on your latest description of how the pot is operating, you've either lost a ground wire, the pot path is coated with grit (note that all pots don't necessarily make scratching and/or hissing noises when dirty) or lastly, the pot has outright crapped the bed; hey, it happens.

FWIW, Surfin' with Satchmo ain't my cup of (celestial) tea.
