Thanks for the reply Martian, that's the kinda of answers i was looking for...And reverting back to the original wiring by eliminating one cap set up on a tone should dramatically change my sound?

You're quite welcome.

Actually, it would change the overall tone of the guitar for the better. I am not a fan of the "Greasebucket" system at all as I find it tries to squeeze whatever it can out of the circuit to the point of where it sounds artificial. Utilizing a more traditional wiring will yield you much more dynamics in the long run.

would you be able to provide me the link to a circuit diagram in which you are talking about, I just want to make sure it's the same as what I'm thinking.

thanks

Use this one:

Now if you want to change what the tone pots do in relation to what pickup(s) they affect, just yell and we'll walk you through it.

The stock p/ups in my 2008 Highway were very uninspiring. Tried out a set of Fender SCNs with less than great success, so went the Seymour Duncan route. The guitar now has a matched set of alnico 2 pros and I couldnt be happier. Never felt the need to re-cap, re-wire or to remove the Greasebucket circuit.

If it helps I'm low to medium gain player, but my collaborator is high gain all the way. The p/ups seem to suit all levels of gain across the board. They do a reasonable stab at a vintage tone, but if thats your bag, I'd think about something more appropraite.

Enjoy the Highway. It polishes up quite nicely too, which seems to stabilise the extremely delicate finish the guitar has.

I'm look for gain more along the lines of SRV's grittier stuff and down to cleans. I have many guitar that do medium to extreme high gain very well suck as;

ESP ltd Truckster w/ EMG 81 and 60
Epi Les Paul Goldtop w/ Alnico II Pro's
Aria ZZ deluxe w/ PRS 1957/2008
Epi Explorer w/ Duncan black-outs
Dean Razorback Explotion w/ Dimebucker/59
and so on...

Wanted my fenders to sound different which is why i bought em, I want to get a sound on my fenders that the guitars above can't achieve and i want the fender not to be able to do what the above guitars can :)

But four of those five guitars are mahogany bodies and necks with higher gain humbuckers, so not really comparable to the Strats, and that makes me happy.

I forget where i was going with this hahaha Oh yes, no I will not be doing higher gain stuff with the strat, just the gritty SRV sound.

I saw some people asking about routing and so on, so i thought while i was checking out my highway one i would take some pics and post them for reference if ever needed by anyone,
I don't know how to shrink em down so sorry if they are to big.

Here is the stock Trem Block with Fender Super Bullets in it.

My spring set up for a really tight tremolo center one is an aftermarket spring, top and bottom are stock. You can also see the Bullet heads before they where tightened up

Here are the stock Alnico 3 pickups

Perhaps the lack of responses indicates the finish is tougher than Fender's advertisements suggest...

I’d really like to see some examples myself. The Highway One has been around since 2002 or so, and with the popularity of “relic” finished guitars I’m surprised to see extremely few photos of these with wear. It’s understandable that folks would be taking extra care of their favorite guitar
:D
