I'm probably the only person on earth that doesn't know, but what is the origin of the name "Stratocaster"? and Tele for that matter.

From Wikipedia:

The name, 'Stratocaster,' was intended to evoke images of new jet-aircraft technology (such as the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress), and to express Fender's modernistic design philosophy.

Here's the article:

And I read somewhere that Telecaster was supposed to be like television...a relatively new technology to the average American family at the time. But I don't know if this is really true.

I'm probably remembering the wrong names, But I think the Telecaster was originaly going to be a Broadcaster, but Gretch?? had a Broadkaster, so to avoid legal trouble, they went with Telecaster. Maybe because Bob Hope and the Lone ranger were going to be "Telecast", so it was on everybodies lips.

Correct. Gretch offered a "Broadkaster" drumkit (!) these days and forced Fender not to use "Broadcaster" any more. Resultingly, Fender took the stickers off from the guitars allready made and sold 'em without a name until "Telecaster" was introduced. Today these guitars are known as "Nocasters". Check this link:

Cheers from Cologne/Germany!
