So i was jamming on my rockerverb earlier and noticed it sounded alot louder, brighter and generally more ballsy...i have two tube amps plugged into the same surge protector...my rockerverb and the other to play jam loops...when i turn off the jam loop tube amp the rockerverb loses its output...anyone else experience this? It was cool kinda like the amp was modded but then i could turn it off...it was VERY noticeable

For a second I thought you were talking about a rocketreverb... and I started to get all excited thinking I wasn't the only one here with one... anyways...

I've been in praiseband where I've have had weird circuit problems like that when me and my friend plug our amps into the same surge protector, so I usually tend to stay seperate from everyone when it comes to outlets.

I guess stuff like that happens when you plug a lot of high voltage stuff into a single outlet...
others can give you more of a definite and scienced-backed answer though :?

Hi stratdude83,

How do you have your guitar connected? If your signal path goes through the second amp first, and you turn that amp off, you will lose the signal to the other amp.

I have my guitar plugged into the rockerverb thats it...the other amp is used to play loops to jam over

I "should" know whats going on im an electrical engineer :? but the only thing i can gather is there is an impedance change when the other amp is powered up cause the only common thing with both of them is that there connected in parallel to the same surge protector

That is weird stratdude83! It must be a faulty surge protector (ground?), the impedance shouldn't be an issue, especially since it only happens when you turn the other amp off. I would try them both directly into the same outlet, and if that works then try another surge protector. My next thought would be a grounding issue with one of the amps. Can I presume that your ground pins are intact on the plugs on both amps and surge protector, and you are using a three prong outlet?

The outlets are all good because i just rewired my basement with three prong outlets and everythings good there...ill try it without the surge protector and see what happens when i get home later the surge protector is a kinda cheapo GE unit

Cool. It is always important to have proper grounding. And, I hope that you actually connected the ground wire to the outlets also (3 separate wires). Just changing to a three prong outlet does nothing if you don't connect a ground wire. You may already know this, I just want to cover the bases. I am not a fan of using surge protectors at home, especially cheap ones. I have never used one at home, and never lost an amp because of it. They really only come in handy if you are jamming during a thunderstorm, and even then they may not help. (obviously we don't want to jam during a storm)

Yes i do realize just changing plugs does not give you a grounded outlet......but i did some fiddling and figured out what the issue is...its my Digitech GNX3! whenever the GNX3 is unplugged from the loop amp i dont have any boost or gain in the rockerverb...only when the speaker output of the GNX3 is plugged into the loop amp with the amp turned on is when i get the boost...still puzzling...wonder if they put that in the manual :?

Whenever I've tried using surge protectors with valve amps I get a weird oscillating sound happening underneath the guitar sound.
I gave up on them.

I think ill just plug it directly into the wall and plug everything else into the surge protector...still dont really understand how the GNX3 could be affecting the rockerverb it must be throwing some stuff back down the neutral
