I'm thinking of (in the future) having a local artist create a Monterey Strat for me.
My question:
To save him some unnecessary painting.......I know that Hendrix's Monterey Strat seemed to be in 2 colors.
I'm wondering....should I get a RED or a WHITE Strat for my artist friend to start with?
Does anyone know what color Hendrix's Monterey Strat started it's life as? (I'm guessing...RED)
Hmmmm........................Image

Red, theres only really that bit of white around the forearm contour.
Was the sticker there on the original?
Are you going to have the poetry on the back of the guitar too Highway?

Hey it hasn't been called a Mayer Strat! You gotta watch that now we have private messaging. You may get a influx of messages stating how you haven't given him enough respect.

I don't care how famous he is (JM)....this particular guitar will ALWAYS be associated with Jimi Hendrix and The Monterey Pop Festival!

I happen to like John Mayer and think he has good chops......but THIS is and will always be JIMI's guitar!

The sticker was part of Fender's EXPENSIVE re-creation of the guitar years back.
I doubt Jimi had a sticker of himself on there at the MPF.

+1

How could Hendrix have put a sticker on the original when that sticker is clearly that famous pic of himself burning that VERY SAME guitar?

The Monterey Strat was Fiesta Red and the other Strat that he played through most of the concert was black with a rosewood fretboard. He switched to the hand painted one just before Wild Thing.

FIESTA RED it is then!!
I will use that as the base for my future Monterey Strat!
I will make a slight change to my taste though........I'm going to put a reverse large headstock on her...just to shake things up a bit!

Hey man, sometime you need to give us a good post about your "experience" on seeing the Hendrix Experience...that is if you can remember most of it. :D
Seriously I would love to hear more about it.

Aw Come on Alain. Thats too much!

How can you show us the back of the guitar and not show us the front?

You can't be so cruel at Christmas time. It's not fair!

Niki your Mayer remark almost made me fall out of my chair. Some may really think that.

We aim to please! And some do think it, I've seen it on these boards.

Hendrix had that poetry on the back of his Monterey Strat didn't he? All that 'Story of love is hello and goodbye. The story of life is the blink of an eye' business.
I'd like to see one with that on it.
