Hi,
Just bought a sweet sounding '87 Vintage '62 RI and would like to locate the spec sheet for that model and perhaps get confirmation on color, pup type and assembly date using the serial number. What is the best way to do that?
Thanks

If I'm remembering correctly Fender does not have records of guitars produced before say 1993/1994. Evidently the sales records were either lost or destroyed at some point before Fender got their current system up and running. Also you can't "decode" dates from the reissues; someone on another Fender forum had a rough listing of the year for the reissues by serial number. Otherwise you will have to remove the neck and check for dates stamped on the neck heel or in the neck pocket of the body.

I used to have a catalog with info on these but it was water damaged and I had to get rid of it; however, the specs were pretty slim back in those days.

Here are the specs. Also check out www.fenderreissue.com , one of the most informative on these guitars.

Body Wood: Alder, Nitro finish

Neck Wood: Maple w/ Rosewood board, slab board cut

7.25 radius

C shape back

Pickups: American Vintage Series MK 1 (precursors to the 57/62)

VRI Hardware

That's pretty much it. I have a '89.

My guitar looks Vintage White. I am wondering whether it was painted Vintage Wht or it aged to this color from Oly Wht / nitro.

Thanks for the help.
