Hi folks, been looking at an American Deluxe Strat, just wondering what the difference is with the HSS models Vs. the non HSS models. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The HSS has a bridge humbucker pickup while the regular (SSS) model has a bridge single coil. The bridge humbucker will provide higher output for more rock tones. One way of putting it is the SSS will put you in the Jimi Hendrix space, the HSS will put you in the Eddie Van Halen space.

Which is better - that depends on what you like. I personally don't care for the balance on an HSS; I prefer to have either all single coils or all humbuckers on a guitar. That's just me, there are plenty of other folks who prefer the flexibility of having single coils and a humbucker on the same guitar.

Hi Harv, and welcome to the forum. I have an Am Deluxe with HSS, and the only thing I don't like is the S-1 switching, to my ear it just makes most positions sound muddy.

I own both. I just bought my AM DLX HSS a couple of months ago. My AM Stan SSS is a 90s axe. I love them both and I use them differently. My SSS is my surf and blues guitar. It is better at this than the HSS. The HSS is a better guitar for rock and a bit of country. I love them both and would not give either of them up. I like the staggered tuners on the HSS the SSS will be getting them soon.

I have a 2009 S S S and I just love it to bits.. Especially the Abalone dot inlays on the Maple Fretboard.....

It's weird though, I had to play a Les Paul to appreciate that the S1 switching on my Deluxe Strat was just awesome.

Single coil to humbucker in the push of a button.. Gotta love those Bill Lawrence SCN's..

Here is my baby, here name is AMBER

Hey Gang

Love the Amber! It is pretty sweet.I had a Deluxe HSS in that colour. However I did get rid of it at it wasn't the guitar for me.I needed a different guitar at the time. The Amber is such a great colour and hides scratches too

I did add another Strat this year to the collection an American Deluxe 3 toned sunburst.Man I love this thing it is a great player with tone to boot! It is very versatile.I would strongly recommeded a Deluxe. But there is nothing wrong with an American series guitar either (I had an American Tele and it was fantstic guitar) the quality for the dollars his very hard to beat. The deluxe has a few great features though.

All I can say is play a few Strats that appeal and if one speaks to you in tone and playablility and looks great then it is a keeper. If not go to another Fender Dealer and try a few more.
