Just received a brand new 2009 Fender Standard Stratocaster in Arctic White with a maple neck. It's an absolute beauty. Also got a Gator Flight Case with it.

Two questions:

1. I noticed on the the 2009 and 2010 Standard Strats that some headstocks have a silver logo and some have a black logo. Any reason for this?

2. The guitar came with the strings not under the string-tree. Does this matter? Will it make any difference if I leave them as is?

Thanks!

Don't know about the logos but the strings should be under the trees

My Am Standard dates to January 2010. It has a silver logo. Put the strings under the strings, definately. Congrats on your new strat. :)

I'm referring only to MIM Standards. If you go on a merchant's website (Guitar Center, for example) some colors of the MIM Standards have a black logo - like my Arctic White one - and some color models have a silver logo. Just curious as to the reason.

Also, with the string tree issue - to avoid any tension issues, how should i go about putting the strings under the string tree? Should I just loosen the two strings affected and put them under or would doing that put uneven stress on the neck since the others would be tight still? Newbie question...I know.

Sorry I cant help you with the logo questions, However I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Yes just loosen them a bit and pop them under... You won't hurt a thing. Now get out there and play it like you stole it :D

yup just loosten the strings in question enough to push them under the tree... the loss of tension wont be noticable on the neck... they make them a lot stronger than that...

unless you losen the strings with a hammer it wont make a difference on the guitar... just make sure the bridge is down or as the tensions of the lighter guage strings increases as you losen the other strings, could snap the smaller strings... bt thats not that likley... as for the coloured logos... im not sure...

They changed logo's recently. The black ones are the newer ones.

What does it mean to "make sure the bridge is down"? It appears taht mine is elevated at an angle a little bit.

That string tree is pretty vital to ensure you have enough back pressure behind the nut. Without it you'll have a muted sounding E&B string. The open note won't ring right.
There are other trees on the market if it's that much of a problem. The Deluxe/Standard tree doesn't pull down enough for my tastes. If you can find a late 80's Charvel cylinder tree. It's a work of art, you can set it as low as you want with no fear of string breakage.
