I picked up a CP 60's about a week ago, but yesterday I got offered a good deal on one of the new American Standard Strats.

Unforuntaly I can't keep both so I will have to trade the 60's in if I want to get the AS.

I like the feel and look of the newer models, but I'll also have to shell out another ~ $300.

What would you guys do? I do realize it's a personal thing, but I just keep going back and forth on my decision so I thought I'd ask to see what decison other would make.

Thanks.

Try to play them both on a good amp and then decide.
Personally i like the vintage look (tuners, bridge, pickups etc.).

Oh, the dilemma!

Think about what will happen in two weeks when you are offered a great deal on a nice Custom Shop Time Machine!

And then four weeks after that ...

my suggestion is to save your money for a great amp ...

then worry about getting more guitars.

Yes indeed! That old dilemma gets us every time.

To make matters worse I don't even play outside the house. Well that's not entirely true, I do jam at a friends garage occassionally. The problem is that I'm 50 and can't seem to leave well enough alone. I thought at one time I was all but done with guitars. Busy schedule at work, etc., so I sold off all my stuff except one acoustic to bang around on when time permitted. I actually went a couple of years with just this guitar, but when my schedule lightened up I found myself playing allot more and wanting another electric. So here I am.

The problem is that I've owned some pretty good stuff over the years and was trying to get back into electrics on the cheap, but it's just not working out that way. I guess once you've played the good stuff it's hard to turn back. I bought a Vox AD modeling amp that kept me happy for a few weeks, but as good as it is for what it does, it's still not the real deal. So I took it back and traded it in on a Mesa Boogie F-30. So I already have what I conder a good amp and since I have a nice amp I need some nice guitars to go along with it right?

I bought the Classic Players 60's because it sounds great and I got a really good deal on it. However, I like the neck on the American Standards much better and that's the reason I'm considering forking out the extra dough. My favorite guitar is actually the Tele, but I find the Strat to be a little more versatile and figured if I'm only going to have the one guitar for a period of time I would start here pick-up another Tele down the road.

I mean if your going to play electric you need a tele, Strat and something with a couple of nice humbucker's at a minimum (2008 Schecter Classic with SD classic 59 in the neck and Custom, Custom in the bridge looks preetty nice); right? :D

Anyow, that's my situation and I can't get it all back at once without getting killed for spending that kind of money on guitars so I'll have to get back into it a little at a time. I keep thinking, get the AS Strat and be patient for the other guitars, then th next minute I think stick with what you have, learn to live with the neck and save that $300 to put toward the Tele and you'll have it much sooner. BTW, I've tried all the Tele's and an American Tele is the only one I want.

I keep going back and forth, it's terrible I tell you. This is why I came here seeking shelter and to see what others would do. I figured you guys would understand. :)

You seem like a guy who has a few bucks at least. My rule of thumb is to buy the most guitar you can. It saves on the back and forth of upgrading. You've been playing for years and can appreciate a good guitar, you should have one. Have you considered something like a used Am. Deluxe? You don't have to do the trade in thing. You can sell your guitar on craigslist, Ebay, local paper....and then buy a good used Deluxe or EJ or Clapton maybe? Trading in a guitar will always cost you more then selling and buying yourself.

Took the 60's in a couple of days ago and played side by side against the AS using the same amp's and ended up trading it in. I was still within the 30 day trial period on the 60's so I got full credit and I got a great deal on the new one as well.

Once I played them side by side it wasn't really that close. The AS was more to my taste.

Thanks so much for the responses, I really appreciate your help and time.
