If you change the gauge of your strings, you will need a new setup because lighter strings have less tension on the neck. The neck relief may have to be tweaked with an adjustment of the trussrod (some people mistakenly think the trussrod is used to raise and lower the strings, that's not what it's for). The saddle height will need to be readjusted. The trem springs would also be adjusted if you have the bridge floating. Evenif you're not changing the string gauge, a "setup" like this is a good idea for any guitar after it's settled in a few months out from the factory.

If you're trying it yourself, go step by step from the guide. You need a steel ruler that measures in 64ths of an inch, and feeler gauges aren't a bad idea. If you have an American Standard bridge, you can preset the saddle height so it matches the fretboard curvature, probably 9-1/2" radius, then you can raise and lower the entire bridge using the two pivot post screws, which is a lot easier than making constant adjustments to all six saddles.

If you're going to use a "professional" tech, ask around to see where people take their guitars in your area, there are a lot more guitar stores than there are qualified techs.

Do you have any fret ware? My 1967 Jazzmaster has the same problem. Im pretty sure its because of the fret ware. Not totally sure though. Ill probably take it in to my local guitar shop and see what they think.

No I dont have any fretware, the guitar is pretty new.

Yeah I figured it had something to do with the change of gauge.

So If I change to a thicker gauge than the one I have now, and even than the one I had before, It should be alright?

And bridge saddle height is your own choice, right?

It seems that no matter how many people tell you to take that to a tech, you keep trying to find ways to do it yourself. I'm getting the impression that you think you tinkered with it, messed it up and don't want to have to explain yourself to the seller. Is this whats going on?
