I went to guitar center today looking to compare the Mexican standard with the American standard.

However, I was somewhat impressed with the GC Fender Standard FSR Strat.

It has a thicker glossy coating on the neck and classic pickups instead of standard, whatever that means.

Tone wise, it seemed to have more bass than either of the other strats.

I can't find any info on the Classic Series Mexico Strat Pickups. No idea if they are ceramic or Alnico. Any ideas on what to expect from a "classic" pickup? Good for distortion or not?

Besides the pickups the other differences between the FSR and the Standard Mex are 22 Jumbo vs 21 Medium Jumbo frets. Not sure about the rest of the hardware.

Has anyone purchased or played the FSR? Any thoughts on whether or not it is a good deal and/or significant upgrade of the Mexican Standard. Would I be much much better off spending double and getting an American Standard?
