My first was a cheap ibanez acoustic (solid spruce top!!), it was one of those box sets that come with a strap, tuner, and a music book. I played it for a while until it was cracked on a plane and now its retired pretty much but i still bring it out once and a while

My first electric was a godin lg.

I have a few more guitar now but both of these will have a special place in my heart and even though they are not expensive i would not trade them for anything.

Mine was a Hondo I got in 86 when I was 15. My mom and dad would not buy me an electric guitar so I saved my money and then got my dad to drive to the mall. The only store I want to was the music store. I got a black Hondo, strap and picks for $150. When I walked out into the main part of the mall the first person I saw was my dad. He was not happy. In 87 I traded the Hondo and $850 for a Kramer Pacer Custom. Again, dad was unhappy.

My first electric was a Japanese 1984 Aria Custom Deluxe ZZ.

I can't say enough great things about how this guitar felt. Fastest neck I have ever put hands on, just was hard to get used to the mini explorer style shape.

I currently don't play it, it needs to be re fretted now, but once it gets new bars I'll be ripping it up again on her.

I remember I got this when i was 15, I cut lawns for an entire summer and my uncle picked it up for me from a friend of his and sent it to me along with a fender frontman amp. I wanted and explorer do bad cause i was going threw my Metallica stage and this is what i got. when i was in a position to buy a guitar i went for the gibson explorer and it didn't even compare, so I never got one.

Dang, everyone, that is born around 40's and 50's is lucky... I wish i was born in 1955... Just think of... The 1980's! Ibanez had it's Les Paul models and they were popular... Like Ibanez Randy Scruggs Signature Les Paul. Just search a picture of it... That's a beauty... I was sadly born in 1996 and in the worst possible time...

Times have never been better than they are now. People didn't have much money in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. So most couldn't afford a high dollar instrument. Maybe some pudgie rich kid. You have a fine selection right now of great instruments to choose from. Have fun now, and no regrets. If you'd been born in the 40s or 50s, you'd be preparing for the "big sleep" about now.

Well... At least i have my Epiphone ES-335 The Dot, and Stagg strat, and Harley Benton Tele... HB is not so bad as they say.

My first 6-string electric, bought at Ann & Hope department store circa 1971, was a 1968 Norma red/black sunburst 2-pickup model, and I recall it cost $24.00 (I can actually remember the price tag)! Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. Back in the late '70s, during a junior high school dance gig (remember those) I thought it might be fun to do a "Pete Townshend" on it, but low and behold it just wouldn't break! I threw it up in the air and it came down - nothing. I did the classic Townshend "over the head" slam and still... nothing! The only damage it sustained was a little crack and an indentation near the bottom strap button, along with a few dents and dings. I guess it was good for a little show but we had to move on. At the end of the gig I gave it to our "roadie" but I don't know what he did with it.

Here are a few pics of the Norma that I found online (unfortunately I never took any good closeups while I had it):

Here is me playing it at a gig in 1976 (with my dad's HUGE "blackface" Bassman rig):

My first bass, also bought at Ann & Hope department store but a few years later, was a late '60s Aria HF-5120 "EB-style" tobacco sunburst hollow-body bass. I actually loved the sound of this bass. It had a very cool acoustic "woody" tone and many times when I recorded it I would use three tracks: one direct, one mic in front of the speaker, and one mic in front of the bass itself like an acoustic guitar. Later on I bought a '67 Gibson EB-2 so I really didn't need it anymore and I ended up selling it last year for around $400.

Here is one of the eBay auction photos:

Indeed!

Kids today can start out on a pretty nice looking Squier-caster or Epi-clone LP with one of those neat Marshall mini-stacks or an FM25.

I started with a two-pickup Teisco "tulip" and a three-tube Alamo amp. Two or three popsicle stacked sticks could fit between the strings and the fretboard at the nut and the amp needed to be "booted" a few times to make it play.

Ah, the "good old days"......

Arjay

My first acoustic was bought from Lidl.. Now that's a guitar, that is really great.. That means not everyone can buy a nice squier. I have always dreamed of a Fender, but i will never get one...

1967. A two-pickup cherry and black sunburst Harmony with a neck like a water main and action like high tension lines. I got it at a now defunct store that sold "distressed" goods. This particular guitar had a black smudge on the back of the neck from when the finish was applied. The Harmony was pretty much unplayable from day one, so I soon bought a Kustom K-200 that I wish I still had. A picture of the Harmony can be see here:

A Harmony? Wow... That's something you don't see every day. Cherry and Black Sunburst is a nice colour.

After about 35 years of acoustic I got the Stagemaster a couple years ago. Have picked up a few more electrics since but is still my favorite. Has the sweetest neck.

A Sears silvertone, Amp was built into the case. Guitar is worth some money now. I traded it for a set of drums! :(

Those amps in a case were amazing. My neighbor had one, I remember how great it sounded compared to my $20 beginner solid state Sears amp. (1972ish) Do you recall the type of tubes in that case-amp? :?:
