In about 1980, a sunburst Cortez Les Paul copy. I saw the light of the Strat in 1993!

Cool thread.

That's actually a Wilshire Deluxe, Xhefri. The "standard" model had the plain dot fretboard, no binding, and the modifed "Vibrola" tailpiece.

Mine was a black Epiphone Special II mated with a Fender Frontman 15R. I modified a Les Paul Custom pickguard to fit, and it looked pretty good. I had a JB bridge and a Pearly Gates neck ready to go in, but traded it for a new American Standard Strat(tri-burst and rosewood board) in 1998. That one is also long gone. Currently I have a 1999 Epiphone Firebird VII in that lipstick red 90% of them came in(it's been upgraded with locking tuners, RSguitarworks wiring harness, and Lollar pickups), a Candy Cola '09 American Standard Strat(maple FB), and a Seagull Entourage Rustic Mini Jumbo acoustic/electric.

Yes, your right. I am not sure if you have seen what these sell for today but it is crazy. I never used the trem on it because it would go out of tune right away. Loved that guitar but ended up buying a new 1971 USA strat and traded that in.

Mine was a Winston teardrop in the early 70s. After that I didn't touch a guitar until almost a year ago.

Indeed, Wilshire's are into the stratosphere now. They were quite popular "back in the day". Here's our lead guitarist from 1968 with his cherry red example......

Another friend of mine had the "standard" dot model in Pelham Blue.

Prolly worth a fortune now.

(note our bassist's '69 Telecaster Bass with original "paisley" finish in the foreground)

This takes me back a few years. xD I have now... maybe about six guitars, and my first one was a Stagg Stratocaster, which i still own. It is black. Nice guitar, very nice, but the frets are damaged, and that's why it's hard to play now.

Very cool! Wish we would have taken more picts back in the 60s and 70s. That Epi was just like mine. I have been wanting to get another one but they are a bit pricey! Thanks for sharing the picts!

Dang, everyone, that is born around 40's and 50's is lucky... I wish i was born in 1955... Just think of... The 1980's! Ibanez had it's Les Paul models and they were popular... Like Ibanez Randy Scruggs Signature Les Paul. Just search a picture of it... That's a beauty... I was sadly born in 1996 and in the worst possible time...

Times have never been better than they are now. People didn't have much money in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. So most couldn't afford a high dollar instrument. Maybe some pudgie rich kid. You have a fine selection right now of great instruments to choose from. Have fun now, and no regrets. If you'd been born in the 40s or 50s, you'd be preparing for the "big sleep" about now.

Indeed!

Kids today can start out on a pretty nice looking Squier-caster or Epi-clone LP with one of those neat Marshall mini-stacks or an FM25.

I started with a two-pickup Teisco "tulip" and a three-tube Alamo amp. Two or three popsicle stacked sticks could fit between the strings and the fretboard at the nut and the amp needed to be "booted" a few times to make it play.

Ah, the "good old days"......
