I am trying to buy a guitar for my daughter for Christmas. What do the numbers mean after the make of the guitar? (Like, 8.0, 8.9, 127 etc.)

I do not see any numbers like you are talking about on the Squier website. Please provide an example. You might get a better response here:

Ah mate, their probably just a part of the serial no' or maybe even patent no's.

Wish I could get my daughter interested in guitars. Nearly bought her (8) a pink one earlier. Then saw a my first drumkit for the three year old anarchist, but the missus put her foot down.

Buy from a reputable shop mate, (fender stockists especialy) you won't have a problem, their great guitars for younger hands.
I'm sure if you explain the situation that the guitar is a present for your child, they'll offer plenty of advice after the sale, should it be needed.
They are also great places to find good teachers too, should that be a requirement.

I think you may be talking about finsih codes. Fender's model number scheme is something like xxx-xxxx-xxx.

the first 2 sections tell the model, the third section tells the finish color.

for example, a squier affinity strat in black (at least used to have) the FMIC part number 031-0660-506.

-506 denotes black
-558 denotes torino red
-519 denotes british racing green

etc.

Now, keep in mind I'm looking at a 2001 frontline as i type this.

from what you describe, "8.0, 8.9..." that might be customer ratings?

Hope it helps.
