I been looking in to bying a strat but I have some questions. I just want a fender that sounds good, feels good and has a good quality. I been looking on strats for a while now and just can't seem to settle for one.
I could pay quite alot of money for a strat would say up to 1800-1900 dollar but then I feel why should I if I can get a used american strat and upgrade it and get a real sweet guitar.

I don't care if it has some dings, it only give a little personality  . If I was to buy a used guitar what should I look for then? Like which years? Models etc.? Or should I just buy a new one now that I got the money?

My heart is torn hear guys and I need some help. Is desperate for a new strat but want the perfect one so I don't regret my buy later.
Is it anyone that could help me out here please?!?!

Go to your local guitarshop and play as many different strat's as you can.
There'll be one YOU like.
Also....who's your favourite strat player, what kind of music do you play,
do you use the tremolo or like it blocked. Do you like vintage or modern,
single-coils/stacked or humbuckers.

Good luck with the search,

Peter

i would get the new american standard, pretty sweet guitar right there, and upgrade it with your favorite pickups, and you're set.

and it probably would only cost you about 1100-1300 depending on what you like in a pickup

man, that a hell of a question. strats are all completely different and there really isnt a "best". I would say just do alot of research on different models, neck shapes, attributes, etc. and also play the crap out of everything you can and try to take notes on the differences of each one untell you can start to figure out what your looking for. remember that no two guitars are the same.

if i were you i would look into used custom shop's in your price range and work your way down untell you find a happy medium whether its a custom shop or american vintage or american standard. you have to play lots to find what you want though.(even though you might not beable to play alot of cutom shops just play reeissues and imagine that but better feeling i guess, i dont know :? )

Well my favourite strat player is Stevie Ray Vaughan. I mostly play blues when i'm at home but I play in a indie/rock band. I don't often use the tremolo is not a skill that I've developed.
Well if I like vintage or modern? I like them both but I fell that stuff like the S1 switch makes the guitar a little more like a machine then an Instument.
I must say I also like the look of a Vintage bridge more even if I heard the modern two point is better.
In pickups i would use single-coils. I like that stratty tone and already have a Ibanez with humbuckers on it.

Thank's for all the replies!]

About this kja said about maybe looking in to some custom shops. Well I have a quite high budget but I'm not shure if I want to spend all that money.

I want a Guitar that I don't have to be afraid of dinging up. I mean I'm going to use the guitar quite alot praticing and I'm also going to gig it so if I spend alot of money on the guitar i might be afraid of using it instead of playing it.

This is why I think maybe it's better to by a used strat and upgrade it a little bit so a can throw it around if I want to, (I won't) but still.

Anyone that have some more input about my troubled mind?

hahahahahaa your troubled mind!!hahaha, that would make a good song!! :)
man i understand where your coming from now. used custom shop relics go for about your budget just so you know but it sounds like your mind is made up. i feel custom shops and other high end fenders are more for playing around the house and babying because their works of art. i think you want a guitar thats amazing but costs less and you can modify it and beat it up and make it yours and not baby it!!! but your still at ground zero untell you figure out the specs your looking for. do you want a deep tint on the neck, gloss or satin, shape of neck, underwound, over wound pickups. that kind of stuff.

btw, you can loosen the middle four screws on a vintage trem and get the same functionality as a modern two-point. do you want maple or rosewood, and do you want a fat neck or slimmer? do you want a boat neck, v neck, c neck etc.

the late 80's and 90's strat pluses are very nice, mid 80's standards and japanese reissues, i like my american series alot but be carefull because they change from year to year, like the finish on the neck can go from a deep tinted gloss to a bright white satin. maybe you would like a used american vintage hot rod? also there are special release highway ones that are seafoam green and already have custom shop pickups and would be easy and somewhat inexpensive to modify to get it up to par. but there so much more too i cant just list all your options.... maybe narrow it down alittle, the tuners, bridges, basically anything hardware related can be changed so focus on the neck and body woods.

Thank's kja. Ypu got me some good tips.

I'll guess I just have to check around, see what kind of necks I like, body wood etc. Maybe buy a used strat from ebay and change what I don't like.
I live in sweden so we don't have alot of used strats for sale but I can buy from the US ebay.
Well I'll just keep looking around and get back to ya if I find "the one".
