Hey everyone, thought i'd sign up because in the near future i will be purchasing my first Fender...yay! :D

Anyway, i've decided on going with the Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster with a maple neck. Though i'm pretty sure i know the answer already, this guitar is made in America, right? I've never owned an american made guitar, as i've only been playing for a year and a half.

Second, i live in Canada, and in my area there are no Fender dealers so i can't just go to a store and buy it, i need to order online...which i've done for a couple guitars, but i can't seem to find a store that has the Malmsteen Strat and ship to Canada, does anyone have any suggestions?

I've bought a bit off Musicians Friend, but for some reason they don't sell that guitar outside of the country...don't really see why :x

Hey,

Yea i've been looking on eBay, but i'd much rather get one new and from an authorized dealer. But if i have to, i'll have to find one there.

Don't really see why dealers aren't shipping this guitar to Canada :(

Can't you just order it through a Canadian dealer?

Give the local shop your business and keep em ticking over nicely.

Far easier that way when you need to buy a set of strings on Christmas Eve for a gig on Boxing day.

I've had exactly that scenario play out a couple of times at inopportune times of the year. I was very glad internet shopping hadn't killed off all the small fish.

Yeah you'll have a bit of a wait, but you'll always be a remembered and valued customer with the little shop. Something you can't pay for.

Where do you live?

Just because the shop is not a dealer and stock Fender products doesn't mean they can't order one through some of thier suppliers.

Especially with something like the Malmsteen strat, I would suggest not buying it without trying it first. The scalloped fingerboard if you haven't seen it in person is a bit strange, at least to me it is.

For a $1700 guitar you might want to take a little road trip to the closest staore that could get you one....within reason of course. Try Long and McQuade. It doesn't appear on thier website for online sales but they could certainly get you one. I saw a couple at thier location in Victoria BC a couple years ago.

exactly. these boards can take some serious getting use to.
most players i know dont like them at all. i had a charvel with this type of board and man it took some getting use to and never was one of my main guitars. chorded voicings are pretty tough to play on those things.

I live in a small town called Kirkland Lake, which is about 6 or 7 hours away from the nearest Long and McQuade. I was thinking about calling them to order it, then ship it out to me, but if that can't be done i might have to drive down to Toronto. Not a big deal, just an annoyance lol

I'm gonna ask the manager at the shop here, though. I only asked the person in at the time and he said no. Would love to be able to get the guitar, and not drive 7 hours for it.

Either way i still have time to find out where i'm going to get it, i'm still in the process of selling a couple of guitars and saving a bit of money. Hopefully by mid January i should have a NGD thread

And about the Scalloped neck...it really intrigues me. I've never played one (I've never even played a strat for more than a couple seconds, for that matter) and i've heard a lot of people say they were hard to play, and some say it didn't make a big difference. It's something i'm willing to learn to love or get used to. I'm a big Malmsteen fan anyway, the guitar just looks badass. I was deciding between the Strat or an Ibanez Jem, the Jem looks really cool, but i wanted something different, the Ibanez feel too similar to LTD for me at the moment.

if thats the case then i KNOW i wouldnt be spending that kind of cash on a style of neck ive never played. if your just playing notes only thats one thing. chords are a real mudder fugger i promise you. it takes a bit of time to get it down. seeing you havent been playing very long would wait ntil you have guitar playing down first. nothing like learning to play a guitar while learning to play guitar.
if your thinking that an ibanez is to similar to a LTD then your playing some crappy ibanez guitars. these are just my opinion. having been an owner of a scalloped neck i do have experience to stand on.
when after youve been playing for a while and you can control your touch,
then i would look into a scalloped situation. have you thought about looking to buy a scalloped neck off ebay? they are WAY cheaper than buying a whole guitar, then just do a neck swap on your guitar.
(if the neck fits. know before ordering)

Wrote the response below before I saw way cool jr's post so some duplication, but +1.

You really need to try out this guitar before you buy. The scallops are extreme. I've played a friend's Ibanez with just a mild scallop and had to really concentrate to avoid sharpening notes. Playing chords was particularly difficult.

You may well be a very experienced guitarist who knows what to expect; in which case please ignore what I am saying. But if you're not, you could find yourself paying a lot of money for a guitar that you will find very difficult to play.

I didn't really mean they felt the same. Maybe it was more of the idea for me, i don't really want a shredding guitar, and even though i think of Vai when i think of the Jem, the thought of shredding is still there.

I'd love to be able to of just bought a neck and put it on a guitar, but all my guitars are Neck-Thru/Set-Neck. I'm probably gonna see if they have any guitars with scallops in the shop here.

I understand what you, and the other have mentioned, But it's something that if i find hard at the time, will only help me to become a better guitar player by sticking with it. I've only been playing about a year and a half, but i've progressed at what i think is quite an impressive speed, and in January i'm going to be starting classes on Berklee online. While i know i probably couldn't last gigging with most people on this board, i can play a lot of Megadeth, Queensryche, Slayer...bands like that. I can play the solos well (except slayer, it's hard to get my guitar to sound like a damn dial up modem  ). So i'm comfortable enough in my ability to play.
