I bought my Strat in 1994
1957 Re-Issue Photo Flame Serial #( N 002984 )
Factory Floyd Rose w/ locking neck. Splitable Dimarzio humbucker. Serial # on neck says Japan.
Neck plate says "Fender U.S.A" and is not square (rounded at one corner w/ odd screw pattern) Body routed H-S-H but came H-S-S.
So was the body and electrics made in the U.S.A. and the Re-issue neck in Japan?????

No; all Photo Flames were 100% made in Japan but for some reason all of those MIJ guitars that had the rounded-off (or I've also seen these called "beveled") neck plate that said "Fender U.S.A." I suppose Fender just made up a large quantity of these neck plates and shipped them off to Fender Japan for use on these guitars.

These neck plates are found on all HM Strats (which were MIJ except for the final year where they were assembled in the USA from MIJ parts), the final (circa 1989/1990) "Contemporary" Strats (which had lightly figured maple veneer tops, Kahler Spyder bridges, and the pickups from the HM on a standard-sized body with a 22-fret neck and may also have been assembled in the USA from MIJ parts), and the HRR Strats (which were 100% MIJ). The HHR Series was replaced by the PhotoFlame series that you have.
