alot of times i will turn my middle pos tone all the way off and put it in pos.2 between my duncan sh-6 and stock mid pickup this gives it a nice thick tone that is great for rythm on the distortion. but aside from that they are all usually wide open unless im clean on my bridge then i roll down to 8 on the vol

A lot of my Strats have a TBX in the 2nd control so I use that on 5 and then 10. Sometimes when I want the silky smooth fuzz with echo I will turn the tone to 2 on the neck pickup. I have been experimenting with using a Tele bridge pickup with the tone on 2 with distortion for a nice crunch. A lot of the time just wide open....

Yep, but only with fender amps, you can use it to roll off that top end sparkle, its really handy to be honest!

Same with the volume knob. Your guitar sounds better at 8-9, Fact!

+1 I always tune my amp as good as I can possibly get it sounding wide open and then roll back the volume on my guitar. My tone is usually around 6 but it really depends on what strat im using and pick up i play alot in between bridge and mid so.
