i like to put a booster pedal between the guitar and amp, and a compressor in the loop and i have the neck tone control disconnected and the middle tone is a master. i like to select positions 2 or 4 and turn the tone to 4 or 1. i have 57/62's and a .1 micro farrad cap. and crank the volume that is THE tone to die for. some say muddy but it's not. the push from the booster makes the bdri sing.

My Tele I always play with the tone on 10.
My MIM HSS Strat I've had wired like the American Specials so I can roll off the tone on the bridge humbucker to take out some of its bite.

Depends of what's needed in the song,
I like to have a tone control affecting the bridge pick up.

No adjustment when I use my Tele, and allmost no adjustments using my Strats. If I switch guitars, I will use the tone knob on at least one Strat. Also, I use the Blender on one Strat for a mix of tone.

Very (very) rarely do I mess with the tone knobs.

I switch pickups or pick in a different places to change the tone.

For years I never took mine off 10, it was not until I heard a guitar with a "Paper and oil" type capacitor in it did I understand how the tone knob is really meant to work.

It now is a standard mod I do to all my guitars, it is cheap compared to new pick ups.

Try one one time, then you will understand it as well.

Hardly ever. I roll off the treble in a couple of songs (Get Back, and the closing run in Don't Look Back In Anger) but other than that I leave the tones on 10 and preset the amp settings to compensate as required. This is possibly not optimal from a tone perspective, but playing a lot of covers means that it would be difficult (for me anyway) to remember a lot of tone changes. Similar to why my volume stays on 10 almost all the time. If necessary to alter the volume I tend to use the pick attack rather than the controls; I find it a more instinctive way of playing. And I can't afford to have to think a lot while playing; I just don't have the capacity!

I'm always having a fiddle with them...

Sometimes for legitimate purposes but often because i dont want to bother switching around guitars.

:)

Not too long ago, I got criticized by another poster for me saying I hardly ever used my tone controls, basically he was saying I was foolish for not taking advantage of the versatility of my Strat. I felt like telling him to p**s off, who was he to tell me how to use my guitar. I held my toungue and ignored him.

I usually leave mine in the middle except for my Powerhouse Strat. It has a master tone control and I have to use it to clean up the sometimes muddy tone.
