I replaced the original pick ups on my strat with Hot Noiseless, and I got the wiring harness installed, and everything is wired ok, double checked, the sound is good, but there's still noise, and I don't know where the solder lug attaches and it's function...can you help me?? Thanks in advance....Tinolat

Solder lug???? whats that? Is it the ground ring that comes from the back of the volume pot to the body?

It's usage entirely depends on your guitars body. A ground ring is of no use whatsoever unless your guitar body has sheilding paint. Some people mistakenly believe that Fender don't shield the cavities of their guitars, their wrong. My Am DLX, Custom Classic and Powerhouse Strat bodies are all shield painted, from new. I can't vouch for the rest of the range.

I've always found that ground ring to be a matter of choice rather than a matter of neccessity. In the mean time, check your leads, amp and power sockets. Try different amps, plugged into different rooms, with different leads.
I suspect your problem lies there. Though we could do with seeing the wiring job too.

Hi tinolat, welcome to the Forum.

Erm, well: it sounds pretty much like everything isn't OK. Doesn't it?

We need plenty more data. What sort of noise? Can you describe it? Does it come and go as you move around with the guitar? Is it different with different positions on the selector switch?

And we need to see good clear in focus pictures of the wiring - or we'll be here all day suggesting problems there might or might not be with it.

Altogether, more info please!

Cheers - C

Hi Tinolat,

I have a set of Hot Noiseless and although they are great sounding pups (IMO) they are still not completely "noise-less".

Can you confirm that they are an improvement on your original pups as far as "noise" goes?

Cheers! :D

Andy

Ok, I'll try to answer everything here....first of all, yes, the pick ups were definitely an improvement!!! My guitar is a Japan made model (1997), but I've done lots to the guitar (I put Hot Noiseless pick ups, new pick guard and all the switches, wiring harness on it, etc. I downloaded the wiring diagram and followed it to the t, and yes, I will take a picture of the guts and send it, it's just that I don't have it at the moment, I need to first take it...I'll do that shortly...Thanks for the fast responses though, guys!!!

Ok, more details to answer: the cavities are not shield painted, and the noise is mostly static noise, a bit less in some switch positions, but mostly the same...

I reckon the noise is possibly due to external influences.

Older house wiring, fluorescent lighting and computer monitors are all sources of unwanted noise that your pups will pickup.

Shielding your Strat will reduce some of the external noise but at the cost of the tonality of the pups to varying degrees.

Where possible its best to try and sort out the external problems before adding shielding IMO.

It should be noted that "Noiseless" pickups aren't totally noiseless as the name leads people to believe. It is simply the name Fender gave to their latest variety of stacked humbucking pickups.
