Im going to New York City later this year, and I was thinking about saving my money and buying one off the nice new sunburst american standards and putting Texas Specials in it and then putting CS 69' in my old American series, do you tink there are enough difference in the tone to be worth it or should I go for a tele or something? Any help appreciated. :)

It's just that I think strats are the greatest mos comfortable guitars I've tried. Guess I'm just trying to justify buying a second one.

:D

Here's justification. You need one to keep in an alternate tuning. Or, it's a good investment. Or, I need one.......ummmm..... because.

The reason for having two strats is for back up at a gig, not for tonal variation (of which there's probably little). When you break a string on a strat with floating trem, you are in trouble!

And it is hard to whip an alternate tuning on a strat for just one song.

A Tele would be a good choice for tonal variation and for use with changing alternate tunings (think Keith Richards' tunings).

Cheers.

For tonal variation, I'd go for the tele, although I'll admit my tele gets played a lot less than my strat does. It's one of those things where you just have to be in a tele mood to play it. OTOH, I can pick up the strat anytime and play. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is other than tone, but the strat is just BETTER most of the time. Both are American Deluxe; the strat is an 04 and the tele an 05, both have maple fetboards so there's no difference there other than normal variations in necks.
