Has anyone tried one of these? Before anyone says, "get a Callaham", I know they make awesome (and more expensive) stuff. A solid steel block however seems like it should be just that, a solid steel block... so long as it fits w/o issue, I don't care if it's shiny and pretty. I guess that's my question... is it going to fit correctly? I know you have to get the GFS trem arm to go with it but the arm can't possibly be that different in quality than a MIM arm. I was just curious as it's WAY cheaper than the Callaham alternative.

Here is a link to the thread I started before I installed one on my 2008 mim standard.
You'll need the GFS trem arm because the threading may be different depending what you are installing it on. As far a quality goes, I think the Callaham block might have a bit more mass to it (heavier). I'm certain any solid steel block will out perform the stock pot metal block you are going to replace.
I was a bit nervous but, it really is pretty simple to do yourself. Just take your time and take some measurements BEFORE you start. That will save you time in the end (TRUST ME).
Keep us posted

I have a 2010 MIM and I used the full replacement unit they sell with a solid brass unit, as my guitar had a bit too much snap and I wanted a bit more bottom in the tone.

Very high quality, and works quite well, I would suggest you get the full unit not just the block.

first i ordered the brass block but didnt like how it mellowed out my tone, so i exchanged for the steel and was much happier, but whatever works for you. I dont think ill replace the 2 point trem in 60 classic player, its one of the highlights of that guitar actually.

I bought the Full Trem replacement with the steel block for my MIM Roadhouse. $35, and well worth it. It does brighten up the sound, and it increases sustain a great deal. I have to keep the treble knob on my amp at about 6 or 7 and the bass on 9 or 10. middle at 5. For the price you can't go wrong. It's not top of the line, But neither is my guitar. Good fit for a MIM Strat. 8)

I put GFS Steel and or Brass blocks on all my Squiers's or MIM's. Great! for the money you cannot beat them.

I have purchased at least a dozen of these over the past two years and quality is consistantly top notch.

I have also bought several of their bridge tremelo sets. Pretty good. The steel of the bridgeplate is not as quite as thick as the current Fender American Standard bridgeplate but it's 100% steel.

For the extra $16.00 you get the whole bridge and trem arm etc. with the thick block. Be careful to order the correct one. American spaced, mexican or import. all have slight differences in string spacing.

Measure the string distances. I think some of the "classics" may use american spacing. My "deluxe player" used an american spaced bridge and not a mexican spaced even though its a mexican build guitar.

Don't be in a hurry! GFS has some guidelines about measuring distances between screws on the bridge as well as string distance. Read the info on the page I sent you about the bridges. The guidelines are in the text describing the different bridges.

Wait until you get your guitar and get yourself an accurate ruler. Measure before you order.
