The ebay strat is 50th anniv. and has Samarium Cobalt pups while the GC strat has Texas Specials. These aren't the same guitars are they? Forgive my ignorance.

*slaps self in face* There is no ignorance, just stupidity on my part. I saw the black headstock with that paint scheme and jumped to conclusions. It could be either, it might even be ash since it's a deluxe. That grain still makes me want to say mahogany though, but the only way to know for sure is to email the seller. >_>

The two are very similar. I've contacted the seller asking for sure and they don't know either.

I nearly decided on the same, that it must be mahogany. But I was looking at it thinking, that can't be mahogany. The grain is just too plain.

I say Alder.

Though shots like this make me question again. It could easily be sapelle or mahogany.

There was a run of American Deluxes in that trans red with mahogany bodies back in 2004 that was available at several of the larger Fender dealers (not just GC/Musician's Friend - I remember seeing these at Dave's and Wildwood as well). I think they also did a run in solid black.

The GC/Musician's Friend only run of American Series HSS Strats with mahogany bodies came later - maybe 2005 or early 2006.

The ebay guitar looks like one of those 2004 mahogany Am Dlxs.
