A little history lesson...from one who lived in the time in Nashville.
The weird thing about Hendrix was that in the early '60s he played around here in Middle Tennessee,in Clarksville where he was in the army at Ft. Campbell and met Billy Cox,and in Nashville at places in downtown like Printers Alley but mostly on Jefferson St.,which was a black area of town.
You have to understand that in the South in that time period, whites and blacks didn't mix much in clubs,so when he played his R&B it would have been mostly to black audiences, that sounds racial and it was.
So even though I was about 12 or 13 years old I never knew of him, even though I knew of Ray Charles,my uncle went to see him in Nashville.
When Jimi went to England and made it big we were hearing this guy and thinking he was British and it wasn't until we saw his album cover did we know he was black, which along with the fact that he was an American was a surprise...that was before Monterey which he played on my 14th birthday in 1967.
When he played that concert he was already well known to people who "were hip",and then the rest is history.

I have the guitar strap. One end of the strap was bolted on to the body and had to cut off with nail clippers. But I havent seen the cut off part that was bolted to the body.

I have his Clyde McCoy wah that SRV gave me and a couple of his shirts that his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham gave me but that`s all.Oh yes I forgot, I talk to him regularly on my trips to Jupiter`s sulfur mines when I`m up from the skies.

Did Hendrix even burn a guitar at Miami? I can't find any pictures of it from the festival. Plenty of him playing a black LP custom at that fest, but no burnings.

I seem to recall that Hendrex had burned a few guitars. I don't know hoe many, but it was more than once.

This is the same piece of the guitar in the book, "The Stratocaster Chronicles."

Thanks for the history.

I spent almost 8 years at the 101st ('94-'98 & '02-'05) and lived in Clarksville not far from Main St.

All i can racall of the zappa strat was that it was burned twice. 1st time was at a gig in england then, jimi had the guitar repaired and then burned it a 2nd time at the miami gig. frank zappa was at stage right and, after jimi left the stage, a roadie grabbed the guitar which also had a broken neck and gave it to F.z. It is also stated somewhere that frank had the guitar repaired and used it on a couple of his recordings...

I just saw Jimi chuck parts to the audience on youtube. It looks like he threw the neck, a cable, and part of the body out into the audience and they were seperated parts.

I saw a book last night that showed DZ's Hendrix-burned strat. Said it was handed down from FZ, and that it wasn't the monterey strat, but another strat that was lit on fire at some other show.

I believe DZ's strat was burned at the Atlanta show.

I use to live very close to Ft Campbell KY, in Hopkins KY. about 15 minutes away.
but as for the Hendrix thing goes, never crossed my mind as i use to shop at the ton of pawn shops right across the street from Base,
so many good deals you could not believe. I remember seeing AK47's going for $150 in the early 80's. and just about any guitar you could imagine.
I was in the Military in 78 - 81, and brand new Strats on the base were going for $350, and $450 for a new Les Paul..

Paris,
You might be interested in knowing that Hendrix was in the 101st as well. He got in as a supply clerk. But he wasn't in long; he faked an "alternative lifestyle" to get an early dismissal once his interest in the army faded. If there are any Hendrix fans looking for a good read, I highly recommend "Room Full of Mirrors" by Charles R. Cross. It is supposed to be THE best Hendrix biography on the market. I haven't read any others for comparison, but I'm 140 pages in so far, and it is phenominal reading. Long time lurker, first time poster by the way. Thanks for the opportunity to share some info!

Would that be Hopkinsville? I lived near there myself, that's why I asked, I haven't heard of Hopkins.
