I came across a 1992 SRV with a Brazilian fretboard on ebay for 7500.Granted the seller claims it was never played and it has a neck stamp of march of 92.I always saw them as slightly higher than the pao ferro version, but not more than double. What am I missing? :?

Only the bathroom mirror the seller was standing in front whilst contemplating selling it. I hope he got off on the thought, 'cause that's about as far as he deserves to get, if at all.

Well I emailed the seller and according to his auction (btw a feedback score of over 3000) he has sold 7 of these.I believe people make wild claims about guitars to inflate the price and hope they catch a sucker.

Any chance the seller is Eddie Vegas? He has one listed on his website for $6500 and says in the ad that he's sold 7.

The ones he's sold before were listed at $4500, maybe after easily selling so many for that price he wants to see how much he can get for one.

I lucked out and got one of the Braz board SRV's 6 years ago for $1500 but I play the hell out of it. Sanded off the finish on the back of the neck, dropped her on a concrete slab that left a nice ding, there's some gold left on the hardware... no where near mint condition... I figure it'll take somewhere near $10,000 to get me to let her go.

as far as I am aware, the brazilian SRV's are nothing short of a myth. Someone prove me otherwise, and Ill belive there was such thing as a MIA Sig SRV with Brazilian

I become very suspicious of guitars that have sold for thousands of bucks. When I go to the local vintage guitar store, I allways see at least 2 vintage guitars haning on the shelves out of reach with a paper on them that says "SOLD" and next to it is a price tag of $5,000 or more. On many occasion the owners never picked up the guitar.

What's the Latin term they use? Buyer Beware?

I suspect you are right. Is there any credible evidence that there even was a rosewood SRV in 92?I have talked to someone who claimed to have an 89 "prototype that was made in the custom shop, but when I pressed him for pics of the date stamp on the neck and body ,I never heard back from him.To me the 92 SRV has so much false info about it.I have a 2006 SRV with a pao ferro fretboard and it is just as dark as my 59 thinskin rosewood in the places that I play on the fret.Really hard to tell the difference.

Here's how claims like this can be gotten away with: First, Pao Ferro comes from S. America so why not claim it to be specifically from Brazil; who can prove this fingerboard's specific origin to be otherwise? Second, not in the luthier industry per se but in others, many classify Pao Ferro in the rosewood genre. So, claiming a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard per the above can now be 'technically' and 'authoritatively' substantiated.

Again, per my old boss, "People love to be ripped off!"

I totally agree Martian. There is even a website called Stevieray.com that even claims the first 50 or so were custom shop guitars which is total BS.Everyone knows a custom shop guitar comes with a COA .Like we see here, there are so many fakes and people dont do enough to check things out before they buy. There are people who are just waiting to rip people off.

Remember what ME said about Artist Series guitars, that they are meant to be merely a snapshot and, particularly w/respect to the SRV, given the detail of the Tribute guitar, the Artist Series doesn't even come close. You're better off with the Clapton in that regard than most any other they build.
