Actually Bill Haley and his Comets were the first. Rock around the clock was the first song to be credited for rock and roll

No one person invented rock and roll. It evolved over time from many sources. County music, rhythm and blues, western swing, "hillbilly" music, and more. All these forms mixed and synthesized in the boiling cauldren of bars, honky tonks, music halls, jam sessions, and life on the road. People like Elvis, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis were some of the first to take alot of these influences and repackage them into what became rock and roll. Like Muddy said, "The Blues had a baby, and they named it Rock and Roll"
