Hey guys, I just picked up a 60's three tone sunburst roadworn strat and all I can say is wow. This has got to be one of the best players I have ever owned, and believe me I've gone through strats and other guitars. Like any start that I've ever bought though, it needs to be modded. Have the sperzel locking tuners, which need some extra drilling...damn...haha. Next on the list comes a set of graphtech saddles (prs style with the little rollers) and an LSR roller nut. If you haven't noticed I use the trem quite a bit haha. If anyone has any suggestions please throw your ideas at me, I'm a gear head who's always willing to give a listen. I will warn you though I am very hooked on these pups in this thing, tex mex's I believe, and it will take quite a bit of convincing to make me switch them out.

Hi roccoj20,

Nice Strat, I have the white version, and with the mods that I did it sounds fantastic. I changed the bridge to a Callaham (distressed to match) and got a nice improvement to the sustain and tone. Also added a base plate to the bridge pickup, moved tone control to bridge pickup, added full pick guard shield. I thought about changing pickups, until I changed the bridge, now the Tex Mex pickups sound great. At least replace the stock bridge block, that alone will be a big improvement.

I will say this, I changed out the Tex Mex in mine for some Klein S-5's and I kid you not, I mis the Mex. I don't like how they sound in anything other than the Road Worn. They are simply amazing in this guitar. I did have it shielded which helped reduce some of the noise. I would listen shim in regards to the Callaham Bridge. Congrats on the strat...where are the pics?

wow thanks guys, you thought of stuff i didn't even imagine needed to be worked on. I'm still sticking with the tex mex pups. They have a really great Steve Vai-esque tone when the gain is cranked. Sadly I discovered that I'll have to do some drilling in the head to put the sperzels in, which I already have thankfully. But so far I'm pretty surprised by the stock tuners, they hold like no other originals I've ever used.

You can buy replacement lockers that fit right in, that is what I did.

I was going to replace the tuners on mine, but found that they were just as good as any I'd ever had (including on some CS guitars). I replaced the pickups with Custom54's, but that was just my taste...

...the other thing I did was to artificially add to the wear pattern to make it a little less artificial looking, but that will come over time anyway!!

+1 to upgrading the bridge/trem block...makes a world of difference whatever pickups you have in there.
