You'll love them Hot Noiseless Andy, their the complete opposite of 69's.

More power.

Image

I'd be tempted to keep a 69 in the middle or neck though. Probably the middle, just for uniqueness.

Hey Andy, congratulations, you finally did it! And no need to haggle with the folks at the guit store... another plus if you ask me! :)

don't have much time at the moment but will follow this promising thread from the sidelines.

How's Randel?

-Nutter

Hi Nutter!

Yeah, I'm pretty chuffed with it and its a good £120 cheaper than buying one from GAK. The neck is pretty chunky mate, might be worth having a go on one if you get a chance. Though I'm like Ceri and have no problem with swapping between different necks profiles and fret board radii.

Randel is fine and thanks for asking! We're currently working on the details for a hybrid Strat. Should be interesting. :D

I hope the new jobs working out OK and have fun in the Big Smoke while your there.

Andy

Hi mate!

The Big Smoke - how fitting! So far it's working out well. Thanks for asking! :)

Necks. Ahhh, the stories I could tell! I shall check that and a brian may neck out shortly, and of course I will report. But I don't think I'll buy a stock neck again... it's over to you to figure out why! 8) We'll see.

Have fun with that Strat!

Best

Ah yes! Your giant stranglers hands!

I've never played a Brian May Red Special (is that the neck your going for?). Its on my list though.

Cheers!

Andy

Yep, I do like the Hot Noiseless. Great pups.

Although the 69's are very weak compared to my BH Strats and they're pretty resistant to EQ-ing, I kind of like um. Also I'm really enjoying the stock vintage spec Strat controls too. No tone on the bridge and all. Which is odd for me as I'm an active power boost mod switch freak!

I had every intention of modding this Strat but every time I pick it up and plug in It puts a big smile on my face! Not sure how long it will last but for now I'm quite happy with it being stock. :D

As for changing the trem block, thats one mod I've never carried out on any of my guitars... not sure why either.. one day maybe I'll give a go.

Cheers!

Andy

Confirmation please! Give me something to look forward to.

Ooo - I somehow missed this thread till now. Nice score, Andy. Love the look of the body grain, and that burst is especially appealing. Tony Macari of Macaris [sic] Guitar Shop told me he sells more Classic Players than any other model of Strat, Mexican or US. That's a slight surprise - but a good one!

Two things I never noticed before. The neck pocket of MIM strats is shallower than MIA, so the neck sits a little higher in its pocket, not sure I like that.

Hi Adrian: that comes as a big surprise to me. I'm such a geek I compile stat sheets on the vital measurements of every guitar that comes my way. I've measured the neck pocket on lots of Strats, American, Japanese, Mexican, Korean and Chinese. And though other stats sometimes vary the neck pocket is one thing that stays solidly the same from Squiers to US Deluxes - so far as I've come across. They are always 17 mm deep.

So yours is a very unusual variance from the norm, as far as I'm aware. I wonder what that measurement is on Andy's CP...?

I like the neck varnish used, polyester maybe? not as tacky feeling as my 1984 MIJ, which is polyurethane- funny how it still feels like that even though it's now quite elderly!

It'll be polyurethane on yours without a doubt. Fender don't put polyester on necks.

So tell! Kinda what this Forum exists for. 8)

(Though don't tell about any future neck aquisitions you might have in mind. There's a time and a place for everything - and this ain't it, yet. )

Cheers - C

Without taking the neck out (which I'm not going to do just yet) Its hard to get a perfect measurement but I reckon mine is a standard 17 mm deep. (don't be fooled by the crap angle I took that pic at. From a better angle its very much 17 mm)

Image

And the neck on mine sits about the same as my other Strats

Image

I would have thought that they would all come out pretty much the same, what with CNC routers and all....

No different from me mate. Since I was a kid until I was 26 I avoided strats. Bemoaning them as being too basic, not enough switching options. It wasn't until a mate gave me a Encore strat copy in a time of hard luck, that I realized the beauty of em.
Been smitten ever since and have gone through all the wiring mods and switches.

Image

Dinky with EMG's and Midboost.

Image

Blackstrat with Jackson CVR's and midboost.

Image

Blackstrat with dimarzio Fasttrack2, SCN and Vintage noiseless, with coil tapped Bridge/Mid. Out of phase mid/neck. No load pots on everything. Midboosted again. (Brilliant variety of sounds).

Image

Deluxe with it's S1 switching, (bit of a yawn)

Even my Tele has a 4way switch, S1 and the Bill Lawrence Qfilter.

Now the pinnacle of my guitars as far as versatility and ease go.

Image

A custom classic. I ditched the SCN's and S1. Went for a completely stock vintage spec wiring setup. No bridge tone, no reverse polarity reverse wound middle pickup, low output pickups. You'd be suprised at the difference that makes. The extra hum is a piddling trivial price to pay. 3 way selector switch, just to make you think about what you're doing.

You just can't beat a normal strat. If only I could lose that 22nd fret and 2 point trem.

Nice selection of guitars there mate. Lots of variety.

nikininja wrote:

You know, I'm really starting to profoundly agree with that statement. Perhaps I'm growing up a bit. Not sure if its time for a hair cut just yet though.

If you've got a few guitars I reckon ones got to be stock Vintage spec or as close as. It puts all the rest in to prospective. My CP 60's makes me vary my playing with some very pleasing results! And every day those 69 pups grow on me.

Worth noting here that this particular Strat is unbelievably stable as far as tuning goes. The trem is set Beck style (just like all my others)and does the very subtle vibrato and some serious wammy action without fault.

For £370 it well exceeds my expectations. What a player!

Cheers!

Andy

Isn't that just the 60s (pre CBS) 11 hole pattern, just like on the other MIM 60s, and on the MIA 62 RI? The pictures for each on the Fender site all look like the same pick guard screw hole locations. :?:

Wot, wot?

...Anyhow. I always thought a joint Forum project would be kind of a giggle. And to be sure, a guitar needs more than just a neck.

Hmmmmmm...

Cheers - C

PS Gosh I'm glad your neck pocket turned out to be 17 mil. I'm away from my stat sheets and did that one from memory. One of those moments when a man is suddenly consumed with self-doubt - after it's too late...

I'd say so.

Late 50s/Early 60s Stratocaster Style Pickguard.

Modern Stratocaster Style Pickguard.

Hope this helps
