Hello all, I am interested in a 2007 Strat. Standard MIM.
The guitar is new, been at music store, in the back of store, still has sticker and protective plastic on pick guard.
The asking price is $395.00. They may drop price soon.
Any thoughts, I am beginner, thought this would be a good foundation guitar to start with.
Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike, welcome to the Forum.

It's a good guitar at the price. At a lower price it's an even better guitar! :D

Seriously: an excellent first Strat. Frankly, it could happily last you a lifetime if you want it to.

Go forth and enjoy.

Cheers - C

+1

Old Strats never die -- and their owners never "out-grow" them!

And welcome aboard, Mike.

Hello again, thank you all for a kind welcome.
It was suggested that I might get it at a lower price.
What do you recommend I offer at the music store?
Again, thank you,
Mike

I have many guitars. In fact I can prooly get any one I want. I have a 2008 mim 50's strat that I love..Btw as with any guitar you may want to set it up to your own feel. The forums are a wealth of help to anyone starting out or for that matter at any level. Good luck and welcome to the forums!. Mark

A good price is a good thing but you don't want to "grind" them. Remember, that might be your music store for a long time. The $50 you might save isn't going to make much of a difference in the (hopefully) long time you own and play that axe.

By the way, I've got an '07 HSS (Mexi) and it is a beautiful playing and sounding instrument.

Good luck, and welcome.

Welcome to the Forum Mike, you could ask them if they'd take $365 for it but if they stand pat on the price I wouldn't storm off as $395 is a fair price.BTW I have 2 MIM Strats and wouldn't change a thing about them, they are great as is.

Welcome aboard, Mike. Those Standards are well made and suitable for someone in your situation. You have to forgive Ceri. He's probably writing with a pint or two on board and can never resist getting the better in a deal. 8) If memory serves me, you're looking at a price which was 'street' in 2007. The current MIM Standards are higher. So essentially, that guitar is being sold at it's original 'street' price. Fair to the dealer, and a break for you as long as you are satisfied that the guitar is either new, or close to it. Sometimes guitars which have been 'on the wall'have been demoed to death. Look carefully at the plastic to see if there is evidence of heavy guitar pick scratching, and also elsewhere on the finish. Ask if the guitar is being supplied with a bag and any additional case candy. If the guitar does not look 'mint' then you might ask the dealer if they can do better on the price because you've ascertained that the guitar could have been had brand new at that price back then. Ultimately, its your call.
Doc

You see, Mike, there's a difference of five hours between the UK and 'US',and I'm not sure exactly what time the pubs open over there.

Well, one doesn't have to retrict ones drinking to coincide with the the locals opening times.

Is there ever a bad time to have a G&T?

I think not! :D

Cheers!
