Still amazed at the deal you got on that one! The tuners on your Strat are about the same level of "crooked" as the ones on my '79 Lead II (which I got new that year for Christmas) so it's pretty typical for that era of Fender QC.

Wow: maybe a pretty nice find! Congrats.Cheers - C

Ceri, Niki!! The CS Strat I've written about looked just like that. Just add gold hardware and a vintage headstock. This is the second winner turned up recently. The other was the Elite with that fabulous burst finish which looks like Sienna. According to Chromeface, it from an even more limited run than we thought. For them that cries "Why not me" it appears that the answer is 'seek and ye shall find', but prepared to kiss alot of frogs.

Absolutely.

The bargains are still out there if you're prepared to look in unusual out of the way places.
That amp came from the middle of an industrial estate, in a town just outside of Birmingham. The Wah came from the sleepiest village I've ever been to.

Ah, smug mode.. being the first to call this a gem!

Ceri is right that we should not have expected this extremely poor QC from Fender, even in their later, darkest CBS days. It's difficult to believe how shoddy that line of tuners is. But with this thread in mind, I went down to see a friend yesterday who owns a late '70s Strat we know to be genuine. It is identical to yours - 3 clor sunburst, black guard and hardware. I hadn't noticed before, but when I took another look at the tuners - yep -exactly the same. An identical blemish on an otherwise fantastic guitar that sounds glorious. He never plays it, but still won't sell it to me.. damn!

You have a peach of a Strat, and I am happy to enjoy your good fortune even second hand on a Forum. A few entirely typical rough edges will not, I'm sure, blunt your pleasure in it's ownership.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy

Aren't there supposed to be screws in the top of the bridge, just where it meets the pickguard. Perhaps it's an original bridge. Fender applied various types of hardware in those years.

Anyway, the guitar looks great!

@Ceri I see it now, it is a bit crooked, but nothing that would really affect playability IMO.

Its a Hardtail. Hardtail bridges aren't attached to the body the same way as a standard tremolo.
