I have a 1956 Fender Stratocaster that is a one owner used very little in the last 40 years. It is still in the original tweed case and I have a Fender tweed amp. I'm thinking of selling, but don't have a clue about how to determine its value. I've been told to take to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, but I have no idea how accurate they are. I guess it all depends on how bad someone wants one. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Just curious as to what it costed new back in 1956? A couple hundred or so maybe. Who knew then what they'd be worth now?

george gruhn is the best of the best.
NOBODY knows guitars like he and his team. his name alone is known world wide, and very respected.
his pricing and value papers are well respected too.
he is not w/o the draw backs though. he will offer to buy the guitar from you for pennies on the dollar. if/when you refuse, he will walk away like he dont even know you. very cold like.
your better off looking for your own buyer rather than going through him.
he requires a heavy commission for being the middle man.
hes great if your looking to insure your collection tough.

Anyone looking for a vintage guitar, this is a steal

Rarest of 50's colours. If it's original. 11000E is absolute bargain price.

It's worth as much as some knucklehead with too much money wants to pay for it ^^ Personally I wouldn't sell it until the market recovers and there are more knuckleheads with more money willing to buy it.

exactly. one of my guitas has went up $13,000 in 4 yrs. hold it until the realestate market rebounds.

Do you think that guitar is going to go up in value quicker in the future?.....$13,000 in 4 years is amazing,at least to me.

not at all. its just headed back to where the value was before this recession
we are in hit.
more than likely it will do a steady SLOW climb from this point forward until it reaches a solid resting value.
very few guitars will EVER do a turnaround like this one did, very few.
the thing is, several of my collection did a turnaround while the majority
still hasnt. the economy is only 1 of several things that effect the value of guitars.

It's not really a steal: refin, hw not original. That's how much they loose from a collectors point of view. Having said that though, if the rest is original it probably plays like a 56 so its a great guitar but personally I wouldn't spend that money for a non collectible; i'd rather get something else.

Dan Yablonka is a reputable seller and a nice guy to boot. I actually played this guitar when I went to pick up my Carr Rambler from him. I wish I had the money for it because it would have come home with me. No not all original but an amazing guitar.
