I have dis-assembled my Strat to clean and paint.... i'd like to replace the frets as i have played the it hard for over 20 years and they are showing wear, but without buzzing yet. i'm a bender with my fender and there are grooves in the frets so its time to replace...
Do i have to replace with fender frets or can i go with another brand? I do not want to replace the neck as it feels great and has sentimental value....
i have 3 other fenders to play, this is just a project for my first baby, want to get it right....
Any advise would be awesome....ty

Go to www.stewmac.com
They will have everything you need to refret, frets, tools, video's on refretting.
I strongly advise experimenting on another neck since the neck you have has sentimental value.
( I'm sure Marie Antoinette may have had similar thoughts, all to nought)

Seriously, there are many pitfalls in this type of repair so be absolutely certain you are able to carry this out, it's easy to ruin a neck if not careful .

Also check out this website www.lmii.com They are more of a luthiers site but equally filled with tools ,books and procedures.

Good Luck
