My AVRI 57 has a good bluesy SRV'ish sound in the fourth switch position. But When I turn my amp volume up the buzz is pretty annoying. My 1st Question is do Custom Shop Texas Specials buzz or not. If so what pickups can I get and keep the sound but lose the buzz. Also I have a 2002 "American Stratocaster" which is the the American Standard from 2002. They just called it American Stratocaster in 2002. In the 2nd and fourth switch positions this guitar has no buzz at all but in 1,3 and 5 it buzzes its $@! off. Does anyone know whats up with that? Thanks in advance for your help guys.

All pickups make noise. Single coils make more than noise canceling or humbucking type pickups.

On standard Strats the middle pickup is reverse wound. Positions 2 and 4 use the outer pickups combined with the middle reverse wound one to create the humbucking effect so its quieter.

To check how noisy you guitar is. Try it out on a few different amps (guitar store?) and compare. Then another single coil guitar on your amp.
You will be able to work out where the problem is.

Possible causes for noise is a ground or wiring problem in the guitar. Poor quality guitar cable. External interference. 60 cycle hum from the amp. Faulty, noisy or poor quality amp.

Once you find out where most of the noise is coming from you can add more shielding to the guitar. Purchase a lifted ground guitar cable. Change pickups. Move the amp elsewhere in the house. Use power conditioning equipment etc.
