Does anyone know anything about the Antigua Stratocaster. I have the opportunity to buy a fully original 1979 antigua stratocaster. What is yhe current value. The guitar is in mint condition.

Thanks

This takes me back; I really thought these where kind of cool back in the day - particularly when they were new before they started to "yellow" which makes them look a bit green. An I loved the silverburst Les Paul Customs too.

That being said the Antigua was just an available color back in 1979; it wasn't a limited run or anything over and above a regular '79 Strat. My local dealer had one and I don't think it was going for anything more than the Strats in other colors at the time.

Sorry I don't have a price guide, but it seems like '79 Strats are creeping up in price these days - seems like unmodded ones are going for $2,500 -
$2,900. I'm not sure that the Antigua should carry a price bump but all the ones I'm seeing on-line are in that $2,900 range. The pickguard just had Antigua vinyl film on it and it is often torn.

These are very rare in mint condition, primarily because the PG flakes easily. Now, a lot of people do not like this finish. But if you do and you have a chance to buy one in mint condition, you should consider it, because it IS collectable. As long as the price is not thru the roof...

If it is in mint condition, go for it. Great guitar. I had one for 7 years.

Thank you all for the info. It sure is in mint condition and the price is app $ 1500,=

I think I go for it. That is if the guy who offers the guitar responds to my request for more info.

At that price definitely go for it. For my previous post I did a quick gBase search and virtually all the '79 Strats (unless they were really beat or were heavily modded with humbuckers, Floyds, etc.) were in the $2,200-$2,900 range (and the Antiguas were at the top of the range) at dealers.

Even if you don't like it you're not going to lose anything on this guitar.
