Hello Fendernatics,

Today I bought myself a nice surf green American Strat from 2009, new from the store. As I understand it these are the same as the current Am Standard strats, but in a limited color. Could someone please confirm this? And does anyone know how many of these guitars were made? I don't seem to find any information about these babies. It's the edition with the colored headstock.

Cheers,

Salsario

Post some pics mate! Don´t be shy! 8)
If its a 2009 then its preety much the same American Standards of nowadays.
I would like to have that kinda information from Fender on the FSR also.
You can always email them with your serial number for confirmation on full specifications of your model.

Actually, from all the different ways that someone can go offtopic, I sort of like this ;)

Hehe, but would you happen to know how many of these guitars were made? I have read 250, but I can't find any official Fender statement confirming this.

I got ya mate. I wonder why Fender doesn´t keep a database for all archived stratocasters serials, so we can always consult which strat we got, specially the FSR´s for the lack of information on Fender´s website.

Surf Green was one of 3 special run colors for 2009; I don't think these were considered FSRs thought. The colors were Surf Green, Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red. I believe Fender made 250 in each color.

This year's non-FSR limited runs were the "Ebony" (black, ebony board, matching headstock, black plastic hardware) and "Ivory" (white, maple board, matching headstock, white plastic hardware). All the other 2010 limited models are considered FSRs like joaokorb's Mercedes Blue model.

Thanks John! That sort of confirms what I allready had. If someone knows more, feel free to add information! The silly thing is, they are identical to american standards as far as I know, yet limited. So I mailed these guys where I bought her, if I could get a discount since this was a 2009 model (not that Fender has changed the standard since 2007 I believe). I got a discount and I ended up paying 200 euro's less than a standard. Weird ain't it?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that these are just 2009 American Standards in the special run colors; nothing else was different. You are correct that Fender last updated the American Standard at the start of 2009.

Here in the US these limited colors originally had a street price of around $200 more than the "regular" colors. Fender had undergone a large price increase (and a change in their advertised/online pricing) at the start of 2009, but shortly after these limited colors came out Fender had a "price rollback" and they wound up being about $100 more than the "regular" colors (which is the same pricing as the 2010 "Ebony" and "Ivory" models). Frankly getting a new 2009 in the limited color for 200 euros under a 2010 American Standard is a really great deal!
