I have the opportunity to buy an 02 American Stratocaster for $750. It's black with a maple fretboard. It has the delta tone on it. Were these good strats? I have it here at my house. Checked the serial number. It all checks out. It needs a good set up. Playing it and then picking up my AVRI and playing it I can feel a pretty big difference. Maybe its just the set up but it just doesn't feel as good as my AVRI 57. I could get a 2010 American Standard for just alittle more huh? What do ya'll think? Were these "American Stratocasters" good strats?

I think that is a pretty good deal for an 02 Am Std, if it is in good shape and has the case and accessories. Without the case and accessories, it is barely an OK deal, a case would be another $100 to $150. The Am Std is a great guitar, when setup properly (poor setup feels bad playing). Your 57 AVRI has a soft V neck, and the Std has a C, that's part of the difference in feel I suspect. But I like the feel of my 08 as much as any Strat that I've played, very nice, smooth and comfortable. :)

I think thats not a good deal at all.The going rate for those guitars is usually 550-650.These are the older MIA before the upgrades.I just sold a 2003 MIA Texas Special for 525 without the original case.I am sure you could get a 08 American Standard with the upgrades for less than that.As the OP sais, the difference you feel is the Modern C profile with the 9.5 radius. The 57 has a V with a 7.25 radius I believe.

2002 is an American Series Strat. Do a search for American Series for more info. Much different from the 1986-2000 American Standards, but not really much different from the 2008-current American Standards (except for the bridge saddles).

I bought a used 2002 Am Series Strat about 2 yrs ago for $750 Canadian. Right now it is my go to guitar and I love the sound of it through my Traynor YCV 40WR. It feels good to me. I got it with a G&G case. The new ones were around $1300 so I thought it was a good deal then. I few months later I saw another used one for $600 or so but mine was in much better condition.
