You could always pull the old "here is a gift for you...a NOS Gilmour strat" and see how that goes.

Once a wise man here at the lounge told me a value knowlege: "If you must have another stratocaster, buy shoes first for the wife."

Hi guys: these "my wife gives me a hard time over gear" threads always leave me scratching my head in confusion. Are you all married to the wrong women, or are you all somehow getting something wrong in your marriages?

The only sweat my wife gives me over gear is she thinks I should buy more stuff and more expensive models. I had my hands on a sizeable chunk of money once and insisted on spending it on the mortgage. My wife was saying; "Go on, treat yourself. Get that Pete Townshend Sig "Number 1" wine red Les Paul you've been talking about. And the Custom Shop Strat. And the ES335. And..."

I was saying; "Nope, gotta be responsible." (Just then the recession came along. Thank goodness someone was being responsible...)

My wife certainly buys tons of shoes and lots of other stuff too. I never complain about it - it's great! (Well, perhaps when it's multiples of the same thing, but...)

Hmmm: maybe that's the secret...?

Good luck, y'all - C

Love the Golmour NOS, but for the money the AVRI and amp would win out. As far as the wives are concerned, mine teases me with the GC coupons we get in email.... "$50 off purchass of $299 or more....not going to let that get away are you???" nice!

Have you played the Gilmour? It sounds like you already have a 57 AVRI, does it have a soft V? If so, do you care about the different necks? If you don't care about the different types of necks, I'd go with the Gilmour. I'd also suggest a 57 Hot Rod as something to consider.

You're asking a bunch of guitar players what you should do about your GAS? That's like a crack head asking a dealer what he should do about his habit. Dude, you gotta buy both.

As for the few people that think their wives don't know.....they do.

Enjoy the earnings from your own labour mate! Tha hell with the wifes! I´ve bought another strat last month, and she still thinks I´ve borrowed it  . How silly wifes are, mine at least.
When I get my own GAS attacks, it only passes by when I actually buy some guitar rig.
Yeah I get thinking, "Should I?" but in the end i say "Ive worked hard for this money, Ive bought presents, Ive paid the bills, so WTF!".
I´ve seen this episode many many times, and in the end I always end up with a guitar in my hands 8)

OR

You can always skip the wife, and get one of these:

PS: if I got the $ I would go for a gilmour strat. or even a clapton.

I wish I could use her $@! for a pillow> :D

I traded my wife in on a beautiful 2001 double fat Strat. She just didn't have the tone I was looking for.

You have paid the bills, bought the Christmas gifts and salted away money for a rainy day, what could she get mad about? When you work hard for your money you deserve to indulge yourself the odd time but indulge the missus too with a weekend getaway or dinner at a fancy restaurant, that'll soften the blow of getting a new guitar.BTW I'd go for the Gilmour.
