Does it matter if your guitar was made in Mexico with American parts?

These Mexican made Stratocaster models aren't bad! They play great, and sound great. It is only made in Mexico with American Fender parts. So assembly is cheaper. If you think about it not everybody who works at a guitar manufacturing store, or Luthier will be Caucasian. It bugs me that some people look down upon guitars made in Mexico. Gibson has Mexicans working for them and so does Fender. Is that bad? No. I'm just venting... Grr. Lol.

What do you guys think?

I think the Mexico factory turns out a wonderful product and thanks to NAFTA it is reasonably priced. I certainly advocate the purchase of MIM guitars to those who are thinking of playing guitar due to their quality and inexpensive cost so that if they don't stick with it, no harm done.

As for myself, I couldn't afford a Robert Cray strat, or for that matter any hardtail, until they started making them in Mexico.

I agree with you and thank you. I can't stand it when people put down a guitar because it was made somewhere other than the USA.

I agree totally. I love my two MiMs -- Lone Star Strat & 1969 Thinline Tele RI. This is probably the best time in Fender's history for consistent across-the-board quality no matter where the guitar comes from. Ensenada and Corona both are turning out great stuff right now.

I'll have to check out Corona because that name is one I have heard before.

Corona is the location of Fender's USA production facility in southern California, and it's not too far from its Mexican production facility in Ensenada, Mexico.

i'll start by saying that i've only ever personally had the pleasure of owning one us made strat. i've played a lot of them, but i've been broke since the day i opened my eyes on this earth, so i've always had to just make do with what i could afford, and upgrade little pieces as i went. for this purpose, mim's have served me well. but i have to say that i've found their quality is inconsistent, and straight from the factory, i think those ceramic pups sound like crap (still can't understand why a company that makes such wonderful sounding pups would even bother with those pieces of complete crap), the entire tremolo assembly has to go (the saddles suck, and the metal those trem blocks are made from is just worthless), as does the nut. the tuners currently being put on the mim's are the finest piece on them, and the only part i wouldn't replace. but that's just me. i don't think it's a racist thing, as the op seems to imply at one point. of course those that are just simply being assembled in mexico, then they're not exactly mim, are they? i guess my entire post is in reference to the mim standard, as opposed to the ones that have us hardware and pups.

I've never has a MIM Standard strat, But I do have a 2007 Roadhouse and It's a wonderful guitar. and it didn't cost me a fortune. I am satisfied with it no end, also, I played a CV 50's Tele by squire and was suprised at how nice that sounded stock. I will be buying one this Holiday season for myself. Great Guitar. 8)

No no I wasn't implying racism was a factor for anybody. I was just bewildered by the fact that some people don't pick up a guitar based on where it was made.

Fender is a company that sells product at a variety of price points. They have guitars made at various locations so that what it costs to make is in proportion to what they intend to sell it for.

It's as banally simple as that.

Good and bad instruments can be made anywhere, by anyone.

Cheers - C

I don't have a problem with a MIM Fender at all. I do agree with a previous poster about the electronics in them, but that is easily fixed. I am happy to see Mexicans being able to make a living in their own country, and I would much rather see us as a country support our next door neighbors, both to the North and South of the border. The MIM Fenders are an excellent value.

Ceri is right,Different price points for different people.People who own Lincolns dont usually look at Kias.I prefer MIA because I want a guitar that will give me what I need right out of the box(except a setup).I had a MIA version of the Roadhouse and the MIM version isnt as good quality .
