I'm currently building a strat, just finished re-profiling the neck i got from warmoth. I want to shave some of the headstock back and thin it out like on the EJ Strat. I played one a few times, and loved the way the strings rang from the thinner headstock, and liked it didnt need string trees. I cant find the width of it though. If anyone has one and can let me know what the thickness of it is; I'd greatly appriciate it.

You can go on "The Stratosphere" website and do a search and find the EJ neck, there's three or four of 'em on there now and there's some specs on there but I'm not sure it shows the thickness of the headstock. You may consider finding one in a shop and measuring it. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure when talking about the specs of a neck, headstock thickness usually isn't listed. I've been looking at those necks too because of the 12" radius, and also they start out at the headstock a "soft V" and gradually turn into a thicker "C" shape down towards the 12th fret. At least that's what I read on one website. I'm gonna try one out pretty soon. I'm searching for my next strat. Not sure what it will be yet though.

Or to approach it from the other direction, in an interview in Guitarist magazine when his original sig first came out EJ said he had them shave two millimetres off the front of the headstock to push the face back and do away with the string tree.

Comparing a Strat of mine with my accountant's EJ Sig that describes how much you need to take off exactly.

Good luck - C

Mine has 13mm (+-), and the head's top is not parallel to the top of the fingerboard; around 3 mm. (pic below)
The rule should help you to figure some other values.
