I just recently put my first ding in my 50th anniversary strat (butterscotch blonde : wink: ). It's fairly small, but should I fix it, will it start to peel the finish or would it be fine to leave it? I have to admit: I don't hate it. It kinda adds to the personality

yeah, i recommend keeping it.
you'll get tons more later, and it sort of tells a story.
you'll wear off the finish whether the ding is there or not.

Just leave it, it gives the guitar character.

What's it sound like? (like an ES-335?) I've never gotten to hear one in person.

I vote to leave it also. A Fender is just not a Fender without alittle wear and tear.

Play it till it fall apart. BTW the first ding hurts the most.

The first ding is painful, but after you think about for a bit it is a cool thing!!!

Yeah, I'm starting to dig it more now. It seems to fit pretty well, and I play it so much I suppose it should look more beaten than it does anyway. I'm actually thinking of buying a TC-90 too, and I'm just searching for a some input on that front, as well. It sounds more like a Gretsch in than a Gibson in my opinion, but with a little more crispness than warmth

The replies to this topic make me like my strat better. A couple of years after I bought my strat, i was practicing with my band and put a big ding straight down to the wood of the guitar with my front tooth. Needless to say, it was very painful in several ways. Luckily, I had a black gibson touch-up pen for my les paul . It worked well on my strat (3-tone sunburst, ding is on the rear near the black), yet I have always been reminded of how stupid I was to mar my instrument. But now, I see the ding as a badge of honor, a brief chapter in the epic story of my strat!

Sorry man, but you gotta' spill the beans on this one.
How do you scratch a Strat with your teeth?
