Hey, I'm new around here. xD

Just got my first strat a week ago, the American Special HSS with the neat 3tsb. I really love it so far.

Now I just got to get a decent amp, haha.

What's up everyone?

You're starting off in true style.

I'm going to make one pitch to ya: Never sell that one, or modify it in any way. Keep original case, and all case candy. Put store receipt and hang tags in a ziplock bag.

I wish I had done this with my first quality guitar. I'm nostalgic, admittedly. But it would be killer to have all that stuff 50 years from now. And the guitar too, of course.

Enjoy making music!

Damn, that's a great idea. I wish I'd done that.

(my first "quality" guitar was a '66 Strat -- bought from the original owner in '68......)

+1. Not about owning a vintage Strat, but the rest of it.  I sold my first guitar, and regretted it as soon as I did.

Thanks guys!

Yeah I figured I should keep it original and all the hang tags. Dad threw the one w/ certificate of authenticity in the trash bin, made me go like mad. I went through the garbage (and naw it was pretty "clean" garbage, just like paper and stuff, not like food etc.), and eventually found it, haha.

And yeah I'm gonna upload some pics as soon as possible, just need to get my strat back. Dropped it off @ the store to adjust the string height (waaay to high), they said it'd take like a week. :!:

Btw guys; I need to get myself a decent amp. Any recomendations and ideas? I was thinking like...marshall... :P

Congratulations. Hope you get years of enjoyment out of it. I got my first one at age 10. It was 1986 and it was a red MIJ Squier Stratocaster. I wish I still had that one.

I have the same guitar (beautiful btw) and it makes my Marshall scream groan and wail. Perfection to my ears, hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. [/b]

Regarding amps i have just got a fender mustang and it is one of the best things i have ever bought.

Its really good for effects and fender fuse gives it allot more than a normal amp.

I have had a few different amp makes but i still by far prefer fenders.

How does it perform compared to a decent marshall (ie like "mid-end", not cheap nor thaaat expensive)? If you have any idea.

Congrats on your new Strat!

Regarding amp choices. What is your:
budget?
musical style?
where you will be using it (how much power do you need? Just jamming at home or plan on doing gigs down the road)?

Help us narrow it down or else you'll get 100 different answers from 100 different posts. It's all subjective, what amp works for me might not work for you.

Thanks. :P

Budget; like I said, like middish, neither really cheap nor extremly expensive. For starters I'm gonna get the "iRig" but planning to get a real amp closer to x-mas. So around maybe $300ish?

Musical style; I'd say mainly metal and possibly some blues.

And I'll probz mostly be jamming @ home for now.

So to conclude it; Alright amp, $300ish, mainly jamming metal @ home.

OK. $300 or less and mostly metal...hmm...that means you need something that does good high gain sounds. You mention Marshall earlier, but Marshalls in the $300 are pretty shoddy in my experience. Going the Fender route you got the Vibrochamp XD or the already mentioned Mustang (the Mustang II looks intriguing). Both have high gain amp models you can select. They have effects and other bells and whistles if you want to play around with other sounds.

Or you could stretch your dollar further by buying used. A used Peavey Classic 30 and just about any high gain distortion pedal will get you into metal territory for slightly over your budget. The Classic 30 is old school tube powered and might be more firepower than you need at the moment, but it would be a good investment since you won't outgrow it and it will probably still be kicking long after the digital amps crap out and become obsolete.

Try out the Roland Cube series. They are really good if you need a lot of versatility. I woundnt gig with one, but just for practicing, and having lots of different sounds, its awesome. I like the models on it a lot better than most other modeling amps.

Also, awesome new Strat! Congrats!
