Hi all,

I am new to the guitar and new to the world of fenders. I have always loved the strat look and sound and even though I didn't play guitar I have always wanted one (weird I know). I have a friend who has been playing for 15 or so years and he is giving me lessons and he also helped me pick out a nice used Strat to get my well on my way to my new found Fender addiction.

I got the mustang I amp and a MIM Strat that was made in 99 it looks like from doing a bit of a serial number search.

My question is as a new strat owner (well almost owner I pick it up tuesday and the wait it killing me) I was wondering what are some good things to know and things to look out for. The guitar sounds good and looks almost perfect, but I want to ensure I take really good care of this guitar.

Thanks!!

PS. Here is a pic of the guitar:

Hi chandljl,

Nice looking Strat. Here is a good link to reference for care, setup, questions etc. :)

Thanks Joak I am hoping to once I know how to actually play. I can't wait to have it in my possession. It really is torture having to wait for it lol. My friend and I spent hours shopping for guitars the day I chose that one. He has been looking for a Tele that suits his needs and while we were shopping for him I fell in love with how a strat handles and just had to have one. Fender adiction is REAL!!!

You´ve seen nothing my friend. I can garantee you that in the next 12 months you´ll see yourself shopping for another strat! I´ve bought 2 myself in this year.
The last one I had to hide from my wife otherwise I would get killed. "WTF another guitar ?!?!?!"

Hahahaah I would imagine. I am actually already thinking about a Highway One. I don't want to get ahead of myself as I need to know how to play decently before I go nuts with buying guitars, but once I get to a good comfort level I am hoping that have enough saved up to buy a new Highway One. Trying to plan a head because if they coincide with one another that would be awesome. Reach a good guitar mile stone...get another guitar hahahaha.

Yeah I see myself in your place. I started out with a Highway One myself. Excelent guitar! So I´ve decided later on that I deserved myself a American Standard, so I bought it.
Now I started thinking about a Custom Shop, but still I think I dont deserve it for my sloppy playing, YET.

Those custom shop ones are nice, but a little out of my price range currently. I woud love to eventually have one, but I figure go MIM, AM Highway, then maybe a deluxe, then maybe a tele, then maybe a custom. Kind of weird to have a guitar buying plan when you an barely play...but...dang...i love me some strats....

Not weird at all man. That only means that you really love that instrument. Like we all here at the forum love them. Fender is the best drug I´ve ever tasted and I cannot get a overdose of it! YET! 8)

good to know this is more of a common happenstance than a rare one =). You just can't beat the fender clarity. I have always enjoyed the sound of a strat more than an LP.

And who cares about Slash anyways ? I´m much more a fan of Hendrix tones ! 8)

Slash never done such a thing with a Les Paul. And if you asked him about it probrably he would say: "Dude, do you realize how much a LP costs?"

Thats the beauty about Stratocasters, If you must smash yours just because you feel like it, just go to the near musicstore and buy another for 999 bucks or so.
