Oh man, that is a nice bass! Love the ashtray over the bridge!!

Oh, and actually, Mr. Gilmour was home that day - I remember as we were jamming onboard. I was playing rhythm and Dave was laying down some beautiful melodies with the Black Strat...

[/quote] Thanks! Here's the whole guitar with the bound neck. I love this thing!

Phil415 - that axe is sexy! Looks like it's growling there all by itself!

ThanksCBDBRP! It almost plays itself when I concentrate really hard. Kinda like Dorothy tapping her heels.
People either love it or hate it. I, of course, am in the former camp.

I like a good old maple neck and fretboard, I've never played a fender with a bound neck, but if it changed how the neck felt, i'd pass.

Hi Tim: though if I'm seeing the photo in your sig line right you do like binding on a Telecaster body. So do I - nice!

Personally, I think a pale, plain maple one-piece neck is the all-time classic look for a Fender. But all the other options are good too. Love those bound necks - I have cream binding on a maple fingerboard on my '75 Jazz Bass. Aaaaahhhh.... 8)

Cheers - C

Ceri - On my Tele...that is actually vinyl pinstriping (flames) that I bought from an auto store. I thought the metallic silver in the flames, which are rather narrow as you can see, went really nice with the black/chrome finish of the guitar. But yeah, I do love guitars with bound bodies, they look nice.

That looks really nice! I wouldn't have the guts to try something like that.

I think it looks cool too.

30 years from now the Custom Shop is going to be searching high and low for exactly that pinstriping to put on the ultra-accurate limited edition replica they'll be building.

'Course, you've got to have a few hits to make that happen. Go to! 8)

Cheers - C

I once tried out an Eric Johson model that had a binding. Great guitar. Somehow I found the binding a little distracting on a strat, though.

That is one good lookin' bass! I was going to ask if anyone has seen anything else but bound rosewood. This answers the question.

It really wasn't too difficult to pinstripe it because the adhesive doesn't set for 24 hours so going slow and redoing little pieces at a time was no big deal. I wouldn't want to try and take them off now, I think the finish would come up with them.
Ceri - Yeah, that'd be cool, thankfully for that I have a few yards of the stripes stashed away.

Found another bound neck and body. Not a stratocaster but noentheless, a cool looking guitar. Not mine, looks like it's for sale.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a bound and unbound neck?

Unbound means the edges of the neck at the fret board are uncovered. Fretboard and neck wood.

Binding on an electric is typically cosmetic and is a strip of material (I'm not sure what it is exactly) at the edge of the fretboard like in the photos on this post. Has a classy look (IMHO) and very smooth feel. On this photo it's the smooth white/yellowish strip at the edge of the neck.

OMG - I saw this and had to stop and catch my breath and then scrape my jaw off the floor... gorgeous!
