I've seen a ton of CIJ with bound necks, there was even an all black CIJ with a bound body and block inlays I lusted after in Yokosuka, but couldn't afford since it was 1,120,000Y :(

But yeah, I don't like the binding, I hate dinging it up and seeing it peel away=\

But of course.

And everybody knows, Gibsons are notorious for their neck binding peeling away, some guitars in as little as fifty years......

LMAO!!!!!

My 21 year old 335 seems to be holding pretty good, so is my 31 year old Yamaha. I just realized, out of my 6 guitars, 4 have bound necks, the other 2 are Strats.

I like a good old maple neck and fretboard, I've never played a fender with a bound neck, but if it changed how the neck felt, i'd pass. The binding is definitely a nice touch visually though.

I played a RW EJ Strat and immediately schemed on how to get one-though my next purchase will be from the "dark side" (i.e. Les Paul or ES-175---or Guild's version of either if I want to stay on the side of good). My '71 JM is bound-necked, and I love it--the binding has held up well, and the neck is fantastic--I also like the block inlays and the large headstock as well. Everything Fendersnobs cower in fright from....Great tone, but too noisy for many situations. +1 for bound.

Hi Tim: though if I'm seeing the photo in your sig line right you do like binding on a Telecaster body. So do I - nice!

Personally, I think a pale, plain maple one-piece neck is the all-time classic look for a Fender. But all the other options are good too. Love those bound necks - I have cream binding on a maple fingerboard on my '75 Jazz Bass. Aaaaahhhh.... 8)

Cheers - C

One of the few remaining legacies from the CBS era that was appreciated.

If I ever bought a Tele, I'd like a 70s one. CBS Fender basses rock...Oddly, I prefer my SF Pro Reverb to the holy grail that is a '64 Vibroverb I am lucky enough to have.

You got a 64 VV and you're in the Tampa Bay area?? 8) You gotta bring it out to one of the local jams one of these days! Just so I can hear what that bad boy sounds like...

Hey CB-I don't go out to jams much-getting a new band together and hope to play out come springtime-drop me a line at bobbya335@yahoo.com The VV is very clean and has a lot of "spank" I put in a Weber speaker that still needs to break in.

Excellent - let the picture posting begin!

Here's my MIJ '75 RI Jazz Bass with it's cream binding and pearloid block
inlays. I love it - but I like CBDBRP's black binding better! (Er - I'm a non-
bass player, BTW. Just had to have that binding!)

Oh, and in case you're wondering, that is Dave Gilmour's recording
studio/house boat, the Aurora, across the stream there. Does that make
up for my lack of talent on the bass? Probably not. I was just passing;
he didn't appear to be at home...:

Awesome! Under mag I think I can actually see him on the back porch?
Here's my Zebracaster again with the cream binding. This is honestly the best playing neck I have ever experienced.

There's a good chance that Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald were in the background at the time of the photo. :P
