Hi. I'm really close to trading an "extra" Tele (if there is such a thing) for a strat. Got lots of offers, including a primo Strat with two humbuckers and S1 switching. The HH, NOT the HSS.

They're discontinued and I've never played one. I would appreciate any info before I even get into it with this guy. In particular, can you really get single coil sounds and the strat quack? Any drawbacks to this PUP configuration? Why did Fender discontinue it? Thanks much.

I had one for a while - it came to me on a trade and I wound up trading it on an amp after having it for a few months.

You can get fair single coil sounds from the HH, but none of the 10 settings are really going to give you a Strat "quack" tone. One of the settings does give you both pickups split to the outside coils in parallel, but the coils are too far apart to give you an authentic "quack". It's good enough in a pinch, but not if you're really into Strats.
