The neck is labeled T.G. (Taddeo Gomez) 6/54 and the body says Mary 9/28/54.

Serial # 0001. It belongs to David Gilmour.

What about the rest of the story? Like, how did Gilmour end up with it?
Did that neck and body leave the factory bolted together or is it a famous partsocaster?

Ahh, my holy grail of strats. Evertime I look at it I get major GAS.

There have been conflicting reports about this guitar, but there is a great write-up on the guitar here: http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=259

Most confused guitar of all time. While its serial number is #1, it is not the first by any means.

Yup, the story behind it is confusing ... it's become quite famous no matter the truth.

With so many hands on it over the years, it's hard to know what's up with old guitars ... neck swaps, etc.

I wonder what happened to the first strat with the first "001" serial number (stamped on it's trem cavity cover)?

It may not be the first Strat but Gilmour says that the whole guitar (neck, pickups, etc) is original from 1954

And maybe it is.. Given what he no doubt paid for it, he has to believe it..

John Bryant, son of Jimmy Bryant, claims to have it. He said that Leo brought it for him to try at the session where they recorded "Little Rock Getaway". (a change from his usual Tele on the Speedy West sessions).
