I was just wondering what people think about the Highway 1 vs. The American Standard. Thanks!

For what it's worth, I would go American Standard. The Highway Ones are nice enough, but the American Standards have a better bridge (fact)and more attractive finishs (opinion).

I am of the opinion that the Highway One Strats are a compromise between the Made In Mexico Strats and the American Standard Strats. Developed for folks who want more than the MIM's but maybe would need to stretch the budget to buy an American Standard.

Just my opinion, play them both and see which one you like best.

Two different price points, so you can't compare.

I do agree that the bridge is better on the standard. I have a highway one, and I am more then satisfied with it. However, if the budget was bigger I would have gome with a standard.

I had a Highway 1 but upgraded to American Deluxe. Highway 1's are good enoough guitars with only real differences being the vintage bridge and the thin finish (mine had a faulty nut where the bottom e wouldn't sit properly so maybe quality control isn't the same, i'm not suggesting they are all like this but maybe something to look out for.) But overall Highway 1's are good.

I'd agree that the hwy1's were designed with budget in mind. But, Fender is smart. They put out a strat, which hopefully will entice people to the "next price level" on future purchases, but still advertises a great Fender sound. At the hwy1 price-level, they won't want to cut corners on sound so that folks will think the next price level must sound like something beyond pure ecstacy. From a sonic perspective,IMO, the upgraded hwy1 is the best sounding rock-blues strat ever. The alnico 3's don't ring out the high-ends as much, and the notes don't bleed together as much, and it honks a lot more. I just think SRV would choose one of these over a std any day. Plus, I suspect Fender was so impressed with the hwy1's, they made some changes in the new std's to make them more like the hwy1...thinner finish, bent-saddles.

Price was not an issue with me, but I chose a Highway 1 because I liked it better.

The MIA has the better bridge. but i thought the HW1 looked, sounded and played better. Just one hobbyist's opinion.
